Default Overseas to Fairfield County

I recently found this site and feel compelled to add a new thread as my wife, 10 month old daughter, dog and I are about to relocate to Fairfield County. I am originally from Litchfield County, so I have familiarity with the state and FF Cty. However, I would like some insight from those who are there now vs. me leaving the state over 10 years ago.

My job will be in Stamford and we are exploring all areas within a short commute by car or train. We will initially rent and are looking for a 3-4 bed house w/ room for the dog (boxer) and daughter. Price range is sub $4k. We don't need to worry about schools yet, but that will eventually become a priority. The plan is to rent for a year or 2 and take our time finding the right house.

We'll be looking at the usual suspects: Greenwich, Stamford, Wilton, New Canaan, Westport, Fairfield, Ridgefield, etc.

I would appreciate any help w/ good realtors in the area. We may even need access to a short term executive rental for 1-2 months as well. I'll be putting Google to work in the mean time. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you are on the right track. I would also check Darien, Rowayton and Westport. Try to stay in a town along the Metro-north line for an easier commute. Good luck and welcome back to CT. Jay

Thanks for the reply. Those towns are in my list to consider. Not sure how close to rte 1 or i95 we want to be, but we'll try to find a balance between having access to shops, restuarants, etc and finding a nice rental property. My wife is home full time so she'll need things to keep herself and our daughter busy.

I'll need more help in finding areas w/in these towns that are considered/viewed as safe and friendly.

Go Huskies!

ANy of these towns would be good. They offer a lot of family activities for your wife and child, as well as you. Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions. Jay

As the others said, you're on the right track. I would just advise on deciding how you want your commute - driving from Westport or Fairfield to Stamford during rush hour would be miserable. If you don't mind taking the train, then those towns will get you more for your $$. And there's plenty to do for families.
