Default Best beaches near Shelton?

I have recently moved to Shelton, CT from central NJ and am in serious beach withdrawal. Where are the best beaches in the area to go to for the day? I haven't heard wonderful things about Milford beaches and wanted to know if they were THAT bad, or somewhere else to go.

Thanks!

Default Best beaches

**COMPO Beach in Westport.....$20.00 parking fee for non-residency
Jennings Beach Fairfield.......15.00 parking fee non resident
Hammonnasset Beach(public).....7.00 for CT residents

These are the three I go to frequently. I LOVE Compo Beach you pull right up to the sand. It is clean, pretty, and has a great big snack/lunch place on the beach. If you have kids they will love the playground on the beach.

There are SO many beaches but these are the ones I have gone to for the past ten years. I am from NY and went to Jones Beach/Long Island but I prefer the CT beaches since they are less crowded and noisy. NY beaches always had loud people playing loud music. I am not old...just enjoy some peace at the beach.

I know my friend likes Silver Sands Beach in Milford but I have never been there and never hear much about it.

Hope this helps and Happy Beaching!!

Let me know if you need any more info!

Beaches in SW CT are a lot different than NJ beaches. They are nice to look at and relax on, but I prefer to swim in beaches east of New Haven.

Check out Hammonasset in Madison, or if you feel like really driving, Misquamicut in RI is great.
