Storrs is a named sub-section of the town of Mansfield. Here is what city-data has to say:
http://www.city-data.com/city/Storrs-Connecticut.html
The UConn main campus is in fact located here. There's not much else around. The area is surprisingly rural. I joke that Storrs is in the middle of nowhere and not far from anywhere. Hartford is 35-40 minutes away, Boston is ~1.5 hrs away, and NYC is 2.5 hrs.
Storrs is a great place if you like living in the country.

If you aren't going to UConn, I don't know how much Storrs would appeal to you if you aren't interested in rural living. That being said, UConn is known to be a party school, and I don't know how much that affects local residents. Commuting to Hartford wouldn't be bad from there if you want the peace and relative quiet of the country near a major university.

Sorry to dissapoint, there is not much shopping in or around storrs. You will need to drive or take the buses to willimantic or manchester to find some stores. There is transport to Willimantic. not sure about manchester.

I go to UCONN. are u goin there as an undergraduate freshman? The best place to go for shopping is in Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester. Theres something called SUBOG and it coordinates a lot of things for undergraduates. They have trips to places like manchester and hartford or even New York and Boston on weekends for a small fee. As far as needs, there is a Co-op, which is like a bookstore.
On the first weekend of school there is sales and folks selling anything from posters to carpets for your room outside. If ur a freshman, u get to move in on friday and they dont run out on u guys.

Transportation is minimal but u really dont need to travel anywhere. There's good transportation on campus and theirs a bus that takes u to willimantic.
