Default Six CT Towns are Nation's best!

CNN/Money Magazine released their 2009 National town rankings, and SIX Connecticut towns made the 100 town list! (Connecticut tied with Massachusetts, Ohio, and Texas as showing up the most on the list).

#27 - Tolland
#55 - Somers
#57 - Simsbury
#72 - Cheshire
#75 - East Lyme
#77 - Trumbull

I know we aren't too keen about these lists on our forum, but I think we should celebrate these wonderful towns (and all the wonderful towns in our state for that matter!) Go CT!

What's even more interesting is how quite a few big states (NY sticks in my mind, I think OH and MI were among them too) had NO towns on the list. Also how all of the CT ones were outside the Fairfield County orbit (except for Trumbull, but it's on the periphery of that in my view).

I know Rich Lee will comment on Cheshire sometime soon.

Nice! What were the parameters used for the rating?

I think it's wonderful that six of our towns made the top 100 list, it doesn't surprise me. But I was just reading the article, and I read Trumbull's description. I don't think it's entirely accurate. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but I'm wondering how thoroughly they actually researched these towns? Where is this nearby commercial strip of big-name chains the article refers to? And it's one theatre is not on Main Street. You have to hop on Rt. 25 and head to the Bridgeport border to get to the theatre, it's not conveniently located in Trumbull at all.

"A nearby commercial strip offers big-name chains, while the downtown's Main Street provides smaller independent businesses and theatres."

WOW...this is amazing and wonderful. I am not surprised about Simsbury, Cheshire or East Lyme. i live very close to Cheshire, just over the line from there so that for sure was no big surprise. The rest kind of did take me back a little. I agree, GO CT!!

If I am not mistaken, isn't there a big shopping mall in Trumbull? It is called Trumbull shopping plaza?? My husband is from Fairfield, so we have been through the Bridgeport/Trumbull area and I have seen the signs for the Trumbull Mall off of Merritt Parkway. Hey, there is a huge Mall here in Meriden and a nice new movie theater in Wallingford if you want some adventure!

Housing affordability was a criteria so I am not surprised that more fairfield area towns were not included,

So have you ever been further east? I LOVE Eastern CT. A little further north too. Montville, Norwichtown, Lisbon, Jewett City - towns up and down off of Hwy. 395 etc. These towns are very pretty-- quiet and cute.

Yes, there is the Westfield Shopping mall in Trumbull, but I never thought of it as a "commercial strip with big name chains". When I think of a commercial strip with big name chain stores, I picture the Post Road in Milford, or Orange. I don't think Trumbull would even want to be thought of as having a strip of big name chain stores in their town.

After thinking about it for a while though, Maybe CNN/Time was thinking of the Hawley Lane Mall, it does have a Kohl's, Target, etc. I tend to forget that's in Trumbull, since it's on the edge of town.
