You should try looking up a bee keeper and see if they could help. They have a bee society but of course the lady who knows the name is on vacation for 2 weeks. Whatever you do, don't mess with it during the day when the bees are active. If you must try to get it yourself, do it at night when they are all inside it. I've heard that if any bees are left, they will build the nest overagain in the same exact spot. Get that epi pen!

when I was little, me and my cousin threw a brick through a nest like that one, and hauled arse! We ran until he fell, by the time I turned around he had been swarmed! He had hornets in his hair, mouth, face, arms, everywhere. After I got him up (and took a few stings myself), we got back to my grannies house, where she promptly treated his wounds. I had escaped unharmed, until granny whipped my arse (real good with a switch I might add) for messing around with god creatures! Moral of the story, leave it alone!

UPDATE::::

Guys from DPW came by. I heard the truck pull up...then I heard the guys screaming. I guess they had sprayed and tried to act macho about it. LOL Nest still up there. I think they'll come back to spray again. They did it from the ground which was probably a stupid idea since it's 20 feet high.

And it wasn't a foamy thing. Dead bees all over the street now. ugh.

GOD I MISS WINTER!!!!

That was stupid. If these are bees, beekeepers may want to remove them to a hive. They shouldn't be exterminated. Bees are becoming quite precious these days. As for hornets some pros who know what they are doing should deal with that nest.
I understand you posted the OP recently, but at that size, didn't you notice it before?
You may want to give there guys at the Connecticut Beekeepers Association a call:

Beekeepers don't want hornets.

Hornets eat bees.

The first pic shows the tree; kinda looks like a "bag", as the OP stated.

20 ft. up.....

Maybe not so difficult for a "hornet hunter" like yourself.

But for the rest of us schlubs, well, you know....

Hey, it ain't funny.

At the tender age of six, while visiting dear Grandma & Grandpa in Moosup, CT, I followed the older kids in the woods to pick blueberries. Barefoot and shirtless, of course.

Single file through the woods, and I was last in line.

The kids in front of me stirred up a yellow jacket nest.

I got nailed.
