Commute time from Danbury to NYC
I'm considering moving to Danbury, CT...we have found a home we really like but the major concern is the amount of time for the commute. My husband and I both work in NYC and have a 3 month old baby. I really dont like the idea of being away from the baby so long and alot of that time being from commuting time...can someone provide a breakdown of the time frame it takes them to commute into the city..from the time leaving your house to the time you get back...we both work 9-5 and would probably go to the Brewster line to catch the metro north.

People do it. Depending on where you are in town, it takes 10-15 minutes to the train & then another 80 minutes to Grand Central.

i only went as far as White Plains but my typical day went like this:
got up about 6 to catch the 6:55 Hart bus to Brewster at the exit 2 P&R
12-15 min ride to Brewster where i caught the 7:16 train
took about 45 mins to get to WP (our building was only 2 blocks from the station)
got to work about 8 and left at 5 to catch the 5:11 train back to Brewster
get on the bus once it arrived and drove 12-15 mins back to the P&R
drove home
typically i would get home around 6:35 - sometimes later making for at least a 12.5 hr day.
since jd's approx train time to Grand Central is probably accurate, add about 30-40 extra train time to my total time. so at least a 13 hr day.

Personally, with a 3 month old, I could see one doing this commute. But I definitely could not see both of you doing it. Not worth it, JMHO, Jay

we use the train from brewster north frequently..last ride was 90 min to grand central on a weekend. normally doesnt even take that long. Exit 8 in Danbury to exit 19 brewster is usually less than 20 min., and the furtest exit east in Danbury.

I have to ask just as an observation, how can people do these commutes? I do not know, and I am in my 20s, how somebody can have the energy to work a full time 5 day a week job, with a 2 hour commute both ways. To me it would seem if you did this it would easily lead to burn-out, having NO life outside of work and commuting, and would seriously interefere with family/social/health life. I don't know how people do it.

when i took the train, there were lots of people who lived in NY north of Brewster and worked in the city. now that's a long commute. and i thought my day was long.

commuting FROM Brooklyn to Danbury - best leave times/route?
I will only be doing this 1 day a week on wednesdays.
Just wondering when the latest cut off time is in the afternoon before traffic gets heavy, or is it heavy all day without a break in the middle of day?
Also, is it better to take Whitestone or RFK bridge to 684?
Or shoot up FDR drive to 87 North north to 684?
thanks!
ps - to the person who asked how we do it, 2 hrs each way.. it's VERY hard, but sometimes, it's necessary.

Once week is not bad. I would avoid Manhattan but it depends on where you are going. Jay
