Default Sand Pits and Teen Hangouts in Waterbury CT

Hi, guys-I am curious about places teens would have hung out in the 1980's and 1990's to drink and just gather in Waterbury, CT. Were there caves or drainage pipes, gravel pits or sand pits? Maybe spots near water?? Were there any spots that might have carried a little bit of danger to them?

I am doing some research on a missing person's case, so TIA!!!

Well, yea. (No Caves that I know of though.) Lots of places "near" Waterbury too.

Waddayaneed? (Waterbury Speak.)

My teen years were between 1980 and 1990, and yes I lived in Wtby and "nearby".

P.S. There is a LOT more than sand pits in Waterbury that can make someone disapear. LOL

Hi all-thank you very much! I am looking for someone who was last seen at his own home on August 24, 2004...the street was Holly St in Waterbury, CT. If you are locals, then you for sure are familiar with the individual. I am not posting the name only because I don't want there to be a distraction from the areas that most of you all used to hang out and party as youngsters!

One area that raised some interest for me was any spots around Longmeadow Dr. in Waterbury. Bing and Google do not give much indication as to whether or not there are drainage pipes, caves, tunnels, retention ditches and the like there. I am also looking for sand pits and gravel pits in the area-I remember being young once and we hung out almost exclusively by the water. It is a wonder more of us were not drowned, but kids are bullet proof sometimes!

Unless you are referencing coyotes or bears, this is what I am looking for, lol!

I need a spot where someone might think it was safe to hide or hang out for a while, but in reality might have proved challenging if something happened...like the water rose, the roof caved in etc.

Wow...my mother used to live on Holly street. Moved out I think in late 04.

I have not lived in the city in over a decade.

Up the road probably less than a mile in the Naugatuck industrial park, there is a storm drain "thing" (cement box type thing) that all the storm drains end up in, it's huge. We used to go in there and do what teens do. I can see someone taking camp in there and it getting hairy real quick if a big storm hit. I want to say it's at the bottom of Rado drive and Great Hill road.

There are also sand pits back from Pearl Lake road.

I don't know the person you are talking about...but the "other things" I was speaking of was gangsters, drug culture and overall crime.

Nevermind, I found him online but will not post it per your request.

Odd. Don't know the guy. Sorry. I'll ask my mom if she knew him though.

Now that is some good stuff and THANKS! Serendipity that your mom lived on the same street...wow.

When I was in middle school, kids from bunker hill projects and angel dr used to talk about going to a cave up in that area. They said that there would be "tons of bums" living up in there. But I've never been so I have no clue as to where the place is.

There are also cave on the wolcott st side of long hill projects. My uncles used to tell me that when he was a kid in the 70's they would go and hang out in caves back there.

why havent u guys dug up that cement area in shelton that they talked about in the waterbury observer?

Thank you so much for the additional info! As to the last part of your question; I am not law enforcement or a PI...just a volunteer who does research. I am fairly certain that there was a massive excavation done of the area you mentioned, and clearly it revealed nothing.

Back to square one.
