Default Need a place to live in far western Litchfield county

I come to ask about extreme Western Litchfield county. My g/f is thinking of a job in Millerton, NY which is across from Lakeville, CT. She'd like to live within 20 minutes commute.

Would anyone have some tips and info about looking for apartments or houses to rent out there? We're early 20's. Would buying a small house be more cost effective out there? We'd like to be closer to Danbury to be able to go to the mall and enjoy Candlewood.

Really appreciate any tips about finding a roof over one's head!

Millerton, NY is pretty far north and not near any larger Connecticut towns. Danbury is about 55 miles away (over an hour drive) and New Milford about 35 miles (about 45 minute drive). Kent is about 20 miles (about 30 minute drive)and Sharon about 10 (about 15 minutes). Kent and Sharon are pretty small towns. To be near the amenities you want your GF will have to drive further. The good news is that the driving in that area is not difficult unless there is inclement weather. I would recommend that you consider New Milford. It has more to do, is near Candlewood Lake and not too far from Danbury. There are more homes to consider there too. Good luck, Jay

I would recommend New Milford. Most of the towns up that way are very quiet. New Milford is pretty affordable. You can find a 2 bedroom 1 bath condo 1000 square foot condo for around $150,000 & there are a large selection of single famioly homes between $250,000-$300,000. Good luck!

I agree with New Milford as Kent, Sharon, and Salisbury won't have as many options. But note that this will be a hike. I'm originally from the town of Dover which is two towns south of Northeast (a/k/a Millerton). New Milford would be about the same as Pawling (three towns south of Northeast) distance-wise. Southwest Massachusetts would be closer.
