Rental Facilities
I'm looking to rent a hall of some sort to throw a surprise bday party for a family member. I'm having trouble finding anything. I found one promising location but they DONT allow alcohol on the premises which is pretty much a deal breaker since it's a 30th bday party with all adults attending.
Anyone have ideas for a venue? I dont want to spend a fortune on it. Would prefer something that's NOT a resturaunt so that people could do other things then just sit and eat.
Looking in Central CT from Hartford all the way to Meriden/Waterbury area.
THANKS!!!

Many towns have VFW Halls. Pick a town and check online for places. Jay

Manchester Country Club. They have two halls one larger and one smaller, spectacular views overlooking the lake, catering is also available if you like.
The view out the windows is something like this:
Manchester Country Club - Weddings and Banquests
Manchester Country Club Homepage
They are a customer of mine, if you are interested DM me and I'll put you in direct touch with the owner. We have our weekly business network meetings there for 30 people as well and it's very reasonable.
Oh and easy easy access from I384. Get off exit 3, go left, about 1/2 mile on left.

We had a big family reunion at a VFW. We charged $25/ticket which covered the catering of the food. We also had folks volunteer to bring an appetizer dish. It was also BYOB, and we did provide soda for free. It was very successful.

I often see weddings and other parties being held at Elizabeth Park (this sits at the border of Hartford/West Hartford). If you want food you will probably want to rent the Pond House which is a restaurant, but since there is a big park to wander in, there would be a lot of other things for your guests to do. It would be a good choice if you are looking for something that is pretty and outdoorsy.
Welcome To Elizabeth Park
Pondhouse Cafe
I haven't done this, so I don't know the price range for the Pond House. However, Elizabeth Park permits seem pretty cheap. (And if it is under 50 people you don't need one).

Yep, it's Globe Hollow Resevoir. It has Mt Nebo park on the other side of the dam too with a great swimming hole, beach etc.

Many town rent out their parks, check with the rec. departments.
Seymour has a landtrust that rents out their clubhouse, and a few parks that have gazebos for picnic tables, etc. Trumbull has pinewood lake clubhouse. Monroe rents out Wolfe park swimming & grounds softball fields.
