Default Where is the lowest cost of living in ct.?

I'm not from NE but i know that the cost of living for most of the area is above the national average, so what area of connecticut has the lowest cost of living within the state? Also how long does it take to drive the entire length of the state like from the eastern border to nyc? I'm trying to get a feel on how big the state is. Thanks.

Probably the part of Connecticut with the lowest cost of housing is the northeast corner. This area is called the quiet corner because it is so rural in character and is somewhat far from larger cities. Towns in this area include Putnam and Thompson.

Connecticut is about 120 miles long (east-west) and about 70 miles wide (north-south) so not too many places are more than an hour or two apart. Thompson in the northeast corner is about 140 miles from Greenwich in the southeast corner and you could probably drive it in about 2 and a half hours. JAy

Cool, very helpful. Thank-you much. I must also say that as someone that has never experienced connecticut before, just from what i've gathered and seen/heard it sure seems like one of the best/better states to live in.

I would say 2 hours to drive across the state east to west (I-95 or I-84), and about one hour north to south (if you use I-91, a little more otherwise).

Jay's assessment about the northeast corner and prices sounds right. At one time it might have been a tie with the almost-as-rural northwest corner, but a lot of New Yorkers bought vacation homes there, though I've noticed looking at ads in recent times that prices have gone down there and it's probably "number 2" in CT affordability now. In general, anywhere in the state except Fairfield County is cheaper than the NY and Boston areas.
