Default NYC to Shelton...is this possible?

My husband may have an opportunity to work in NYC. My company has an office in Shelton. If we make this move - we would like to move to NYC and have me commute to Shelton.

Is there a way to do this via public transport? I don't want to have to deal with a car in NYC.

If I did drive - is this commute horrid?

Thank you in advance for taking time to respond!

Depends on what you consider horrid. It would be over an hour commute whether driving or using public trans. Someone else can help you out with the commuting options in that area however..

Over an hour and a half is pushing it for me. Over an hour is ok. I can manage that. My company has a work from home policy - so I could participate in that at least once a week. And if I could get on some sort of public transport (car pool/vanpool/train/bus/etc) vs. drive - it would be all that much better.

I used to work in Shelton and I can tell you that it would take about an hour and a half to drive to the city from there. The good news is that you would be going against traffic. There is no real direct form of public transportation to Shelton. You could potentially take metro north, but there is no stop remotely close to Shelton. You'd have to connect onto a bus and even that has no routine schedule. Your best bet would be to live in Stamford. Driving from there to Shelton is a breeze and there is a direct Metro North express to NYC.

Huh??? There is a metro-north station in Derby.

The OP could take the train to Bridgeport and then transfer to the Route 22x bus. This is the express bus and it stops in the corporate park in Shelton.

I, too, work in Shelton. The commute into NYC would be better if you could continue living in Connecticut. Do you also live in Shelton? It's a short drive to the Stratford station where your husband can catch the metro north into grand central. Otherwise, if you try to commute into Shelton, you're looking at a train from grand central and another one to Shelton (not sure if you can transfer at Stratford). Then a bus ride from the Derby station. Or as the other user suggested, the bus from Bridgeport. I know when we take the train into the city during off-peak times from Milford, it's always 90+ minutes. Good luck.
