Farmington, West Hartford, Avon, Simsbury, Canton are good places to look at. All of them have great schools. West Hartford has the best commute times though. Crime rates are low in all of those places, but the home prices are expensive. Don't move to New Haven, bad, bad , bad! Filled with crime and poverty, and terrible schools. Good Luck!

New Hartford is Fabulous! Just take Rte 44 into Hartford. It's about 30 minutes, but it is a nicer drive than I-84. Schools in New Hartford are fabulous, and there is Ski Sundown, a Lake, and a lot of activities for families. It is also convenient to Rte 8, Rte 4, and Rte 202. There is a huge Park, (Brodie Park), and also Brown's Corner for baseball and soccer. It truly is a nice community.

Rt44 can be a brutal commute into Hartford from New Hartford. I make the opposite drive into Canton every day and actually drive down 84 to RT4 in Farmington and back up Brickyard Road or RT10 to 44 to avoid the endless light after light after light on RT44.

Default Commuter Bus from Cheshire CT to East Hartford

Hello all,

I've tried searching the CT transportation links on the web but have gotten nowhere; maybe it's because I don't know the area, but, I will be acception employment in East Hartford and was wondering if anyone can give me any info re a commuter bus which would go from Cheshire to E. Hartford.

Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated.

I am not sure if there are buses from Cheshire to East Hartford, but check CT Transit. You may be able to get a bus to Hartford and then from Hartford to East Hartford. Another option may be Rideshare or Easy Street. They are van pools that arrange for commuting from different place around the state. I know they serve your area. They have web sites, so check it out. New Haven is not riddled with crime and poverty as suggested. It's actually a nice smaller city. It's about 35-45 minutes to Hartford without traffic. As said, there's no commuter rail between Hartford and New Haven. Your best bet would be to live in between. North Haven, Hamden, and Cheshire are all nice towns. North Branford is also a nice town, though a little more rural in parts. It can provide you with a decent drive into New Haven as well as an easy way to 91 to avoid the New Haven traffic. The suburbs of Hartford tend to be more expensive than those of New Haven.

It really depends on who wants the longer commute and your price range.

There is an express bus to downtown Hartford from a couple of park & ride locations in Cheshire. Transfer in Hartford for a bus to East Hartford.
