Farmington vs. Danbury
Hi,
I am relocating for a job from PA to CT. I am a 33 year old single female who does not want to live right in a city but close to a city with cultural diversity, interesting restaurants and pubs, adult athletic options, and green area. Farmington seems to be meeting all those needs for me with a Soccer Facility, Tennis facility, health club and only a few minutes from West Hartford. I have been advised by the company that they would prefer me to live in Danbury. From everything I have learned so far it seems that Danbury would be a great option if I was married with a couple kids, but not necessarily going to meet my needs currently.
Thoughts?
Thank you in advance for any feed back.

Where is your job? Danbury and Farmington are a good 50 miles apart. And while close to West Hartford, it may take longer than you think to go there because you have to go past the rt. 44 hill which tends to have a lot of traffic.
Though still a bit of a commute (25-30 miles), if I am right about your job being in Danbury, maybe consider living in White Plains, NY. You'd get all of the things you are looking for plus easy train access into NY City to boot to enjoy Manhattan.

My territory is actually NY up to Albany, all of CT, RI, NEPA, and Westchester County NY. I guess I will be going into Westchester quite a bit, but I will also be in Hartford a fair amount as well.
I'm really not a city girl and not interested in going into NYC. I would like to have a town home that I can walk directly outside from with a back yard and I know the more I go south the more expensive this will become. Are there area's in White Plains that would be like this?

Yes, it would be more expensive in White Plains.
Given your territory as you described now, I'm not sure Farmington is such a bad idea and correct myself. It's not like it would make it much less central for you than Danbury. Keep in mind that Farmington is expensive by Hartford-area standards (but less than White Plains and Westchester still.....it is VERY expensive here in Westchester). Good luck!

Danbury is a very cental location. There are a ton of condo communities built within the last 25 years. A lot of people take the train from Brewster to get in to the city. The area is a lot more affordable in terms of home prices & taxes than Westchester County.

Yes, but if you read earlier she's not really interested in NYC and sees Danbury as a place for a family, not a single person. I was evaluating this for her on that (place for single person) vs. Farmington. I agree Danbury is a lot cheaper and taxes and notably cheaper in home price than Westchester.

Check out Southbury. It's between Danbury and Waterbury and is similar to Farmington IMO, but is located in a more rural area. I also agree that Farmington area is good for you given where you'll be working.
