Default Where should I live if I'm working in Manchester?

There's a potential that I will be moving from Maine to Manchester to work and I was wondering what might be some good areas to live in. I'm not necessarily looking for a nightlife or anything like that. I'm looking for some place that has good rent prices and a nice area. Thanks!

Do you have kids? Looking for a good school system? If not, I would probably just rent in Manchester. You are close to everything and there are lots of apartments to choose from. You will probably find cheaper rents if you rent in a two or three family house. The larger complexes like Aspen Woods or the Pavilions are nice, but on the expensive side. Probably start by looking on craigslist. Nearby Vernon (one town over) also has lots of rentals.

I'd look right in Manchester. It's a nice, very liveable area.

Thanks, I forgot to mention I'm 23 years old, single, no kids so school districts aren't an issue for me. However, safety for a young female is something I'm looking for as well

I spent the summer temporarily in the Hartford area and was living on the Vernon/Manchester line. For the most part I found both to be safe, so you should be OK. Craigslist is a good source, that's how I found my temporary sublet initially (it didn't work out and ended up getting a good deal on a motel through a friend of a friend for the rest of the way, but there were a lot of other good offers on Craigslist I checked out and could've taken). Good luck!

Manchester itself would be a good choice.

Hi Amy,

Manchester itself is reasonably priced for the most part, but they also have some newer, more high-end luxury units for rent as well. Are you looking strictly at apartments? Because there's a few towns that have duplexes for rent as well as condos, but they're likely to be more expensive. Manchester, Glastonbury and South Windsor are all decent areas but depending upon what you're looking for at what your budget is will likely determine where you end up. Even if you're not looking for nightlife per se, one advantage to any of these towns is you'd be close to pretty much anything you're looking for in terms or retail and entertainment.

When searching, be sure to check out the "mills" apartments in Manchester. (Google) They are converted silk mills and are "newer" and have a lot of ameneties but are not priced like the "luxury" apartments over in the Buckland section.

They are also in the historic Cheney district which is very nice and only a couple blocks from Downtown so you can walk to the shops, cafe's, restaurants etc.

As far as safe, compared to national figures we are way way below that. Most of the crime here is petit theft etc in the retail district. There is no "gang life" to speak of.

Manchester has done me and my family well since we moved here 7.5 years ago.

I have to agree with the others that Manchester is probably the best place to look. Neighboring Vernon would also be good. Jay
