Default Rental Homes in CT?

Hello all,

I've done a search, albeit not an indepth one, online for rental homes in a few of the towns that we're interested in and did not have such good luck. Maximum rent is $1300 a month. I think there are plenty of apartments to go round, but we have 2 dogs...

We're interested in the region east and southeast of Hartford (Marlborough - found a nice rental there for $1100, Colchester, Hebron), Lebanon which I believe is in the Quiet Corner, and southeastern CT near the coast (North Stonington and Pawcatuck area)? I will need to search online some more, but this forum is so great for info I decided to check here too.

Will it be more likely that we will need to purchase a home, seeing as we would be bringing two chihuahuas with us (who can get a bit loud at times)? Thanks for any and all information!

The towns you are looking at are all pretty small and somewhat rural in character so finding a rental may be a little hard. They do exist, it is just that there are not a lot of them. Check their local papers and craigslist for listings as well as realtor.com. You might even call a local realtor to see if they have any. Also note that the towns you mentioned are not really considered to be part of the "quiet corner". That is what the towns in the northeast corner of the state are called. Jay

Realtor.com would be the best place to start. Craigslist generally gets listings for the larger areas (in eastern CT, that'd be Norwich, New London, etc). The newspaper listings are often quite vague and most are not worth following up on. I found an apartment rental in East Haddam (next to Colchester) through Realtor.com. The towns you are looking in are all quiet and very beautiful, you can't go wrong with whatever you find there.

You'll find it hard to rent with 2 chiwawas. I wouldn't want to.

I actually disagree with this. I have been doing a bit of research myself, I have 2 big dogs and have found that most of the home rentals were pet friendly.

I agree, I don't have dogs but noticed that most rentals were dog-friendly but had weight restrictions and/or required an additional deposit.

Thanks for the info, guys! I looked at Realtor.com, and it seems to have more information than Trulia, which I had been using. At Realtor.com, I could view rentals as well as homes to purchase.
