Default Trumbull?

We're thinking about making an offer on a home in Trumbull, and am wondering if and where people go out to eat around there? Do you travel to Fairfield? Where is there take-out?

(we like to eat out about once a week)
Thanks!

Trumbull has traditionally been light on the commercial areas. There isn't much. There are some very good restaurants in Fairfield and Bridgeport... I lived in Trumbull for 10 years, although moved out years ago, not much has changed much... A few area recommendations that I have been to:

The Smithy (Monroe) index
Good food, not far from Trumbull. Been there for over 30 years. Great Steaks, Americana, and Seafood.

Marissa's (Main Street Trumbull) Marisa's Restaurant of Trumbull, CT
Decent Italian. Overpriced in my opinion.

Cinzano's (Fairfield) Cinzano's restaurant
Been eating there since 1990- Great Linguini and Red Clam Sauce. Delish!

Centro (Fairfield) Centro Ristorante & Bars in Greenwich, Darien and Fairfield, Italian Restaurants in Fairfield County, Connecticut
Delicious with a flair. Gets a tawny Southport/Westport Crowd with Great sandwiches and entrees. Been my mother's favorite lunch place for almost 20 years.

Panda IV (Fairfield)
The Panda Group of Chinese Restaurants have been around Fairfield County since the mid 80's and almost always provide a good meal.

Tiger Bowl (Fairfield/Westport Line)
Unadorned and boring decor, but the best General Tso's in the County. Great food and very popular for takeout. A bit of a haul from Trumbull.

These are just a few to get your started. The great thing about the area is it's heavy on locally owned restaurants and light on chains like Olive Garden. We would drive up to :45 minutes for the right restaurant when I was growing up in FFld. County and I am happy to drive up to an hour to some restaurants today.

Let me know if you like any of these, and I am sure others will chime in with recommendations.

It is funny to someone recommending restaurants in Fairfield. As a kid there we use to go to Westport to eat out at nicer places.

Anyway, Trumbull has a number of nice small restaurants. I am not sure what it is you like but I am sure you will find the basics (Chinese, Italian, Pizza, etc.). Another option is North Main Street in Bridgeport. Many people in Trumbull shop and eat here. Also downtown Bridgeport has a number of excellent restaurants as well. I would make a post on chowhounds.com's New England board. They will be able to give suggestions nearby. Jay

We lived in Greens Farms and moved there from Trumbull-- We were always more comfortable in heading in to Fairfield. While there definitely were/are some great places in Westport, we tended towards volume and frequency which was more possible at Fairfield pricing

Trumbull has a good selection for typical take-out foods; pizza and chinese.

Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton, just up the street has a large variety of restaurants, including many chains such as Outback, Longhorn, Bertuccis, Ruby Tuesdays, Chilis and theres a mexican and hibachi restaurant that I can't remember the names of.

Route 25 north has some nice restaurants as well, The Smithy, Robertos, and something on Main that are very popular. Also many pizza and chinese takeout. In Newtown, The Fireside Inn, and the Inn at Newtown are nice places to eat, as well.

And yes, people in Trumbull eat out a lot and you will have a lot of fun exploring the eateries!

If it's strictly take-out the OP is looking for, and not a sit-down restaurant, there are also a few others not previously mentioned. There is McDonald's and Duchess in Monroe, as well as Submarine Sandwiches, Quiznos (or did they close?) Buffalo Bill's (they do offer take-out, and some people rave about their ribs) etc. Newtown and Shelton have Panera's as well. There are numerous places to pick up so quick food in Trumbull, Monroe, and Shelton.

If the OP is still around-- This may be helpful: Trumbull Restaurant Week

Trumbull is having a restaurant week. I think I am going to try a couple of these restaurants. I am curious about Ichiro.

I've never been a fan of Marisas. I found the food to be OK at best, and not so clean in there. JMO though. Check out Mona Lisa in Newtown - a bit of a drive but excellent Italian cuisine.

There are a lot of places to eat in Shelton along Bridgeport Ave (next to Trumbull) as well.
