What a great topic! I am curious about this too!

I just moved to Black Rock and last night was the first night I turned on the heat...

day Temp: 60 (I work from home when I am home and dress warm
evening Temp: 60
Bedtime: 66-68

Have an old thermostat and its hard to get it exact.

We keep our home cool particularly at night. We do not really like the heat on a lot while we sleep. DW turned the heat on this morning when she got up. We generally keep it in the low 60's most of the time but she is always adjusting it so I never know where it is set. Jay

Even though I'm home all day with a young child, I keep our thermostat at around 60 during the day, we just dress warmly. We keep it low at night as well, around 58. (when oil costs were extremely high a few years ago, we kept the thermostat even lower 24/7)

I've only had the heat on once so far this fall. I imagine that's about to change with the cold days expected later this week, though. And I know they say fires in a fireplace suck the warm air out of a house, but I do like to build a fire most evenings for a few hours when it's in the 30's or lower. It's probably my favorite winter pastime.

We have people home on and off all day long so all day and night we keep it set to 70 degrees, although I must say that we have very large older windows and that's why we have to set it so high. That and the thermostat tends to read the temp in the room warmer then it actually is.

Right now we are keeping ours around 66 downstairs during the daytime and 60 upstairs and at night. Once the temps drop further though and it takes even more propane to maintain that temp. we will probably lower the thermostat further to save money.

Well - great discussion. DH likes to save and bundle up, I like to be comfortable in only 1 extra sweater so 69-70.

Plus - just for information sake - , when our dd was born the folks at NewBornSpec Care said infants & children should not be in a room colder than 68 it taxes their system to much and burns to many calories just to keep warm. She's older now but still gets uncomfortably chilled if it is lower than that.

65 during the day, 60 at night.
As a side note, babies run hotter than adults. Some guidelines below to prevent thermal stress (over heating) in babies.
-Check baby’s temperature by feeling their chest, which should feel warm
(it is normal for baby’s hands and feet feel cool).
-Ensure that baby’s head and face (this is where they vent their heat when they get hot) can't become covered when sleeping - remove duvets, pillows or anything else which could cover your baby's face. Use layers of lightweight blankets. Remove/add as needed. Do not use electric blankets or hot water bottles.

The irony is that even though I'm originally from Montreal (brrrrr) and my husband grew up in South Florida (shvitz), I'm the one who is always cold.

However, even though I'm the one who works from home and is here all day, we only keep it at 65 during the day. It's set to go to 65 at 5.00am, which is when I typically wake up to take the dog out for his walk. Then, at 9pm, it's set to drop down to 58. At that point, I'm out walking the dog again and then throw myself under the duvet to warm up for sleep.

So, yeah, 65 during the day, and 58 at night.

My nose is always red and cold. Just call me Rudolph from October through March.

Thanks everyone

I am leaning towards 60 overnight and when we aren't home then 66 when we are home after work. It is getting pretty chilly in the house already.
