Yes, the State is investing in new trains. I believe there will be 300 new ones that will start arriving next year. That is also why the state is investing a lot of money in the New Haven Rail Yard in order to make room and be able to service these new trains. That said a lot more is needed on the station and track side of the service. There has been years of talk on a garage in Stratford but no plan for it. Stations are being discussed for both West Haven and Orange. These need to really get moved along quicker. Significant service, track and station improvements are needed on the Danbury and Waterbury lines. And the Springfield-Hartford-New Haven commuter line is definitely a good idea but needs funding from the feds. That is going to cost some big money but the pols don't have a plan to pay for any of it. I also always wondered why fare hikes on Metro North have been so small, but it is very unpopular to hike fares on a service you are trying to increase use of. Jay

Get on the waiting list for a permit right away. The cost of a permit is much less than day parking, but it takes some time to get a permit to the main lot.
------------------

Not sure what the wait for Fairfield is, but I got a permit at the garage in bridgeport in less then a week. I went to new Haven yesterday because me and my girlfriend are gonna move there, talked to the security guard and he said the waiting list was 4 years. get on the list as soon as possible.

Fairfield's list says something like 5 years. Go the the town's website and it tells you how many people are on the list. You can also sign up there too. The town is building a new lot at the new train station off Black Rock Turnpike and King's Highway East. The station will have 1500 spaces but is not expected to open until 2011. The station is under construction but the town has not started on the lot yet. I know there are issues with the developer of the remainder of the site and that appears to be holding things up. Jay.

The new Westport train passes include the vehicle type and license plate that must be put on the cars... hopefully this will help speed up the process

Fairfield does the same thing, but from what I've heard it's really easy to modify the permit.

Come on parking people - join the 90's and set up a bar code scanning system! Now THAT would really clear people out, especially if you fine both the car that is being parked as well as the permit owner.
