Default Moving to CT and job in Berlin

I am moving to CT from NJ due to job. Job location is in Berlin, CT. I would like to know if Berlin is a good place to live with a family (one kid and wife) or i consider nearby areas/suburbs and need recomendations. I will be renting an apartment and looking for a good and neat place. Any recommendations for apartments are also welcome.

I was also planning to commute from NJ to CT everyday but looks like thats not a good idea.

Thanks.

There aren't a ton of apartments in Berlin, but there are a few so you might be in luck. Berlin is a fine community. You may have better luck finding an apartment or condo to rent in nearby newington or rocky hill. Both are close to highways, shopping, restaruants. All 3 are safe communities with decent schools.

Berlin is a nice family town, I'm sure you'll like it there. However rentals may be a tough find there as PP stated.

My husband also works in Berlin and got an apartment when he first started (Feb. 07) until we joined him 6 months later and bought a house. It was difficult to find a place that had a short term lease so he ended up at Century Hills in Rocky Hill which was only a few minutes from work for him but the place was an overpriced dump. Rocky Hill is a nice town itself though.

I'll jump in here again and give you a recommendation on a place. Granted I lived there about 7+ years ago now. At the time I was paying about 900 a month. Loved this place. It was called Baldwin court (look under cambridge management) and it is located in newington, but literally walking distance to the berlin and rocky hill town lines so your commute would be minimal (if you are working at NU by any chance you could actually walk there from this apartment). Its also just a stones throw from the berlin turpike so you would be near everything. Its a small complex located in a residential area of homes and townhomes.

The only difference between the first and second floor units are a patio vs deck and the 2nd floor ones have vaulted ceilings. Each unit has its own entrance which is nice. Each unit is 2 bedroom, 2 bath and has washer dryer hookups, central air and a fireplace The MBR has a walk in closet and the smaller bedroom has a huge closest with an L shape to it that is good for extra storage. The washer dryer area is a utility room off the kitchen which also affords you a little more space for storage. The kitchens are small, but there is a seperate eating area. I think the units are about 1100 or 1200 square feet. I never had any problems there and the one time I called for maintainance (broken DW), it was fixed the next day. You might want to check them out. When I moved there was a wait list, but I was living with my parents so not in a rush. Not sure if there are still wait list, but give it a try, good luck!

Try Elms Common in Rocky Hill. I lived there for 2 years and it wasn't bad. It isnt over priced like Centry Hillsand the apartments have been updated in the last few years (new kitchens, furnace, ac, windows, vanities). Only down side there is covered parking is an issue during snow storms.

I only moved out becasue I bought a townhouse. If I didn't I'd probably still be there.

Newington and Rocky Hill are excellent suggestions. I would also add that you may want to consider the apartment complexes in the West Lake area of Middletown. This is a very short drive to Berlin and there a number of complexes to choose from. I know that they offer short term leases as well. Jay

Middletown is nice and lots of rentals due to the Weslayan University population, but schools are sketchy so you may want to consider that.

In addition to Rocky Hill and Newington already mentioned, another nice town with rentals is Wethersfield. Going to Berlin you'd still be going against traffic (since most of it would be going the other way to Hartford) so you'd be good and it's only one town farther from Berlin than Newington. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. How about if I live in New Haven and commute daily to Berlin. Is it a long commute daily? I can't find any new apartments in Newington or Rocky Hill (preferably close to mall but not necessary). Hartford has some new complexes but it would be a far drive I think and expensive too.

New Haven is not so nice except for the Westville and East Rock neighborhoods. I think New Haven would be more commutable to Berlin (though it certainly is doable from New Haven itself) if you live just north of NH, say in Hamden or North Haven. But Hartford is just as far to Berlin if not a little closer actually. But I would probably stick with the West End if you look in Hartford city itself.
