You kidding me?? I'm calling BS. I do 90mph and it's not with any German car..It's with my work car, a 03' Toyota Corolla! Smooth as can be! I slow to 80 for the curves.
I wont do 90 for more then 2 minutes straight but I will do 80 for a long time and let me tell you something...
Cars come up behind me and the right lane cars are doing 70 as well.
P.S - I'll never weave in and out or do 90 when there are cars around me.
P.S.S - You'll never catch me doing more than 65 at night on the Merrit. I'm terrified of hitting a dear at speeds over that.

Here's the question - are you from CT or NY? Oh, you're in Norwalk and have a CT plate? And you don't have a luxury car? And still go 90?
I rest my case.

LOL... Yeah I always had the need for speed (the safe way) and deep pockets. LOL I actually use that car for work... When I'm off and I'm on the Merrit I do 100 with my new car but shhhh, dont tell anyone.
I'll never forget doing my record breaking speed of 138mph with an Eclipse at night on I-287 in White Plains on slight curve. Ahhh, the good old young days. lol
We are soo off topic now.

Not very smart. I hope you realize that by driving recklessly you're not only endangering your life (because hitting *anything* at that speed WILL kill you), but the lives of others around you - including my friends and family who travel that road daily.

287 in WP? Holy hell. Usually the land speed records get done on 684.
I've only cracked 100 four times. Then again I drive a Cavalier too, so going much over 100 is impossible. But: 84 in Manchester, 91 in Middletown, 395 in Thompson, and Route 695 in Killingly. None of those are the Merritt (and 695 is practically a dragstrip.) Some roads scream "speed here", where doing 85+ on much of the Merritt is a suicide wish in my mind.

If you're going to do 138mph in Westchester, at least do it on that straight out speedway called I-684 and not crowded, curvy 287 Oh wait, Lowerdeck was reading my mind when I typed this.
But seriously, I side with kidyankee on this one.

Dude, re-read my posts and you'll want to re-type that. Reckless is when you weave in and out. Reckless is when you kiss the bumper of another to get them to move. Reckless is when you switch lanes just so your car dont tilt. Recless is when cut someone off. Reckless is when you use the shoulder to pass someone. I DONT DO ANY OF THOSE! I reach high speeds when nobody is 1/4 mile in front of me then slow down when I approach them.
And P.S - When I'm doing 65..I realize whats going on behind and to the side of me...I hope other drivers are that good too. I'm more worried about what other drivers are looking at then me going fast. THINK ABOUT THAT ONE!
And If I see someone on the phone weaving....I'll pull to the side of them and tell them.

So which is it? Fast or "reckless" [sic] slash "lackadaisical"
Speed alone doesn't kill. As you pointed out "wreckless" behavior which at times includes speed is what the problem is. When talking speed, frankly it's velocity that does the damage which a semi going 60mph has a LOT MORE of than a 3000lb car at 90mph. It's just math in the end.

Don't most soccer-moms drive SUVs? I used to follow them daily in their huge luxury sport utilities, most exiting in Darien, New Canaan, or Round Hill Rd.
And I'm not giving NY drivers a pass at all. But I wouldn't dare say they're any worse than those just over this side of the border. It's all the same stuff - this thread is just people making sweeping generalizations.
BTW - I think your toll idea with a pass for residents is the best idea for revenue yet.

Okay so we are saying the same thing then. The road is not designed for people speeding along like you are on the NJTPK. Wait didn't someone already say that?
Perhaps the mix of CT plates and NY plates down in FFC is not as drastic, but I can promise you the further East/Northeast you get the NYers start to stick out like a sore thumb.
Even on the 12 lane wide section of 84 in Hartford traffic normally cruises around 70mph. Yes some go much faster and some go much slower...but the norm is about 70mph.
Then you get some guy in a huge rush sleezing into a backed up line of cars for an exit that come flying up at 80mph slams on his brakes and "cuts" into the line of cars...yep, NY/MA plate and generally it's a high dollar Euro car with some salt and pepper type A yacking on the bluetooth who would push everyone off the road if he had a snowplow on the front and could get away with it.
Same if you just head up the Merritt into say Wallingford. You have the locals moving along normally and every so often Mr Autobahn going from NYC to Boston blowing up the road at 90+mph in the right lane about killing anyone trying to merg from the onramps.
Snowman27/7 Wishes/Lowerdeck:
I won't disclose the road only to say there were no onramps/off ramps or anything around but grass and guardrails. I went at it with a well modified 720whp Supra TT - I had him by about 3 car lengths until I ran out of gear and rpm at 172mph. Yea he eventually passed me thanks to an extra gear, but he knew which car was quicker.
Young and stupid. Never again. But even still I would never ever do that around any kind of traffic or a road that had any kind of cross roads or even homes past the runoff. Now I just go to the track to go fast...when I have time that is. lol

Yep, I remember those days...155mph on my ZX10 going down RT11 through Colchester/Salem...Scared the hell out of me. I never went above 130 after that!

Frankly, i think its pathetic that you are all on here bragging about how fast you have gone. I hope the day you crash, it's into a concrete bridge and not into someone driving along at "normal" speeds.
BTW - get pulled over going that fast and it will be called "reckless driving" regardless if you were "weaving in and out" of traffic. Going that fast, if something suddenly crosses in front of you - do you really think your response time will be as fast as it would be if you were going 75/80mph? Probably not. Justify it how you want, but its reckless and stupid.
