Thumbs down Another Friday Traveling Northbound On The Parkway....

Well, what have we here. A line of 5 vehicles smashed up a half mile before Exit 41. Vehicle#5 has a NY plate, Vehicle#4 has a NY plate, Vehicle#3 and Vehicle#2, NY PLATES!!!!!

Vehicle#1?

Some poor CT resident probably returning home from a hard day at work.

I'm seeing this happen so frequently now, and it isn't funny.

pulpfiction is on a distinguished road
But, hey, at least it's a 'historical' road

I've said it once, and I've said it again--mobility down there is a JOKE. The fact that the Parkway has no shoulders whatsoever in most spots makes for fun times during the inevitable 3 or 4 major accidents that occur each day.

Who needs modern, safe & efficient freeways when you can have a historical landmark anyway

Empirical observation suggests that Connecticut has decided to stop building infrastructure of any kind.

How is it our fault that New Yorkers drive like lunatics with a death wish again?

I think you are missing his point...you might want to read it again. The highway IS an historic landmark and not designed for people to come through it at 85-90mph and a "get out of my way" attitude. What that highway needs is some police enforcement to slow everyone down a touch. It's not the NJTPK.

SCR: I hear you, it's one of the reasons I want to see border tolls with a "pass" given to people with CT plates.

The 91N to 84E onramp gets swamped on the weekends - sometimes for a mile or more. As you pass the long line of cars, you'll see MA, NY, MA, MA, PA, CT, NY, MA, NY, NH, CT etc for plates.

These folks are using and clogging our roads for free. Try driving for free from Philly to Stamford. LOL

LOL Nothing like having several "impatient" 7 series or AMG Mercedes on your tail with looks on their faces with 5 more behind them all trying to go 90+mph because your 75mph is not quick enough and you can't move into the right lane for a mile or so because the person in the slow land is matching your speed tit for tat and if you hit your brakes the guy 5 inches from your rear bumper will probably hit you. I just laugh it off.

I've never seen such an "unpoliced" stretch of highway in my life. Once in a while I'll see a cop and he's usually got some old beat up Hyundai pulled over while 100K cars blow by at 90mph. Just an observation.

I'd love to take some of these agressive drivers for a day at Limerock in one of the turbocharge monsters I've owned and let them really see what "high speed" driving is all about. (You really learn to respect the road more and slow down when you experience things like that, believe me.)

True, and I guess it varies with time of day, but I see that more often on 2-lane stretches of I-84 where you have the trucks doing that as well.

Oh no doubt...but the difference is 84 has breakdown lanes, run off areas, wider travel lanes and no "hard" curves.

The Tpke is an historic roadway, and not designed for that type of agressive driving. If everyone slowed down a little and stopped jockeying, IMO the traffic would flow better and things would be a lot safer...but the police don't seem to dare down there.

Folks from NY and Jersey cross the border and stay the the NJTPK pace on a road that doesn't allow for it.

Maybe we can put a restriction on the Merit for CT residents only like they do for non commercial vehicles. LOL

Yes, I think you hit the nail right on the head. In this state, there are always a million reasons NOT to do something. Maybe a blade of grass would be disturbed somewhere, and we can't have that. People here generally have their head in the sand, and we're slowly being strangled by our inability to think ahead and rise to the challenges we face, one of them being transportation.
