You definitely did spend too much time in Texas. Family oriented means simply that they have good schools and a lot of family activities. Nothing to do with the make up of the family. Jay

Generally the further north and east you go in Connecticut, the cheaper the home prices are. To be within an hour and a half of Larchmont means you would have to be in western New Haven County. Check out towns like Wallingford, North Haven, Hamden, Seymour, Oxford, Southbury and Middlebury. Maybe Southington too. You should be able to find a nice home in your price range in these towns. Jay

Check out Seymour, Oxford, Southbury and Shelton. All are in your price range and about 70 minutes from Larchmont without traffic.

Well in the "white flight" days of the 60s and 70s (maybe even 80s) he wouldn't be so crazy, but I don't think it's true at all anymore, at least in the Northeast.

I am glad to hear it. I'll try not to jump out of my skin the next time someone uses one of the phrases that tend to be "hot-button" in the south!

I take some of it back, check out this thread: Why is Staten Island so conservative?, particularly the last page or two of responses.

But from what I've seen at least of Westchester and most of CT, I think this is not so true here, mostly just with Staten Island like in the thread I've posted.

First I want to thank all of those who posted helpful ideas for me and my family (especially Jay!).
Second, I am quite appalled that the phrase family friendly could ever be misconstrued so offensively. I have lived in the Miami, FL area for 37 years. One of THE most multi-cultural and diverse areas in the country. Family friendly means exactly what jay said. Good schools, low crime, essentially what most normal people want.
Thanks again, for all your tips and advice!

Do not be appalled. Unfortunately there are still parts of our country that are not open to alternative families. Fortunately most of Connecticut is not one of them. Jay
