We will soon be relocating to CT from Florida. Big change!! I need some help in finding towns that are family friendly but not out in the middle of nowhere. I'm used to being accessible to malls, restaurants and such.
Looking for good schools, decent home prices and taxes, and activities.
Can anyone help in my search?

What is your budget (price of house or amount of rent) and what kind of living accommodations are you looking for?
Where will you be working so we can recommend someplace within commuting distance?

What's your definition of "accessible"? Everything is accessible, it just depends if you have a limit as to how far you want to walk/drive! )

We have a budget of $375,000 and since we have 2 kids we need at least 3/2 house. Would like to be in a neighborhood with families. As for commuting, we would like to be within 1 1/2 hrs from Larchmont, NY as that is where or family is.

How about Newtown? just north of a city, Danbury, but still rural, very family friendly, great schools. Convenient to Westchester...plenty of 3 bed/2bath houses in your price range...

Unfortunately you wont find a house in that budget within 1.5 hours of Larchmont, NY at least not in a town with a great school system. Perhaps closer to 2 hrs you could find though. Near NY city is the most expensive area of CT.
Will you be working in the Stamford lower CT area or no? As I assume you wont be visiting family as much as you will be driving to work and back.

We would like to be south of Hartford but not too much further east than that.

I would agree that being up as far as Newtown would be better for your budget. That will likely be about an hour and some change to get to your family.

If you want to be south of Hartford but no further east then your looking at the New Haven area which would be about a 2 hour commute to your family since the traffic on 95 is horrendous.

Perhaps Orange, CT then...It's in the New Haven area but has good schools and you could find something in your range though it may not be a palace... The only sacrifice you'd have to make is distance to the family!

That would be fine!!! We just need to be in a reasonable distance to visit once a month.
