Do you have any advise in terms of the best commute options money and time wise? - I do not own a car in NYC, but may need to get one - . Also, do you know how my taxes would be affected by this "lives in NYC, works in CT" status?

The easiest way to get there is to take the train, it should be about a 45 minute ride. You can contact your employer to find out if they have a van that brings commuters from the train station to the office. You might get lucky and be within walking distance. The reverse commute from NY/NJ to Stamford is becoming more common.

If you work a 9 to 5 then driving would be your last option due to traffic. Driving could work if you aren't commuting during rush hour.

Default reverse commute and taxes

without a car, train from Grand Central (or 125th St) is the only good option unless you can carpool (lots of reverse commuters these days)

many large stamford employers are either near the train oir offer shuttle bus service...especially those likely to attract employees up from NYC

You'll pay tax to CT and most likely get an equal credit against your NY taxes. As a NYC resident you'll also pay NYC taxes.
