Many great places available in Milford...it is definitely the mid-point between NYC and Hartford. Metro north station is conveniently located and the town is safe and friendly. Carol

What is Milford like - demographically? I only drove through once, but it seemed to be a long commercial strip... what are the neighborhoods like?

About a mile or so away from the Rt 1 eyesore there is actually a nice little downtown area with shops, restaurants, the Metro North station and a pretty decent nightlife scene. Most residential neighborhoods in Milford are very attractive too.

Predominantly middle class, small portion of upper-middle class, tiny portion of lower-middle class. Basically, a husband/wife/2.4kids/dog would describe a typical household in the city. It's a conservative, family oriented, safe community with good schools. Neighborhoods north of Rt.1 have lower density than those that are south of Rt.1(this is applicable to basically every town in CT.). The borough of Woodmont probably has the highest overall real estate values in Milford, the borough of Devon would be the most affordable in Milford.

I have to agree. There is no easy way to get to Brooklyn from Glastonbury. You could also take Amtrak from Hartford to New York and then catch a subway to Brooklyn. This would take about 3 hours each way and Amtrak is not cheap. Jay

this was killer when i did it (from right off exit 5). it was a 60 mile ride one way making my daily commute 120 miles. it usually took me over an hour in both directions because of 84 traffic. needless to say, it got old really quick which is why i moved to where i am now.

if you're going the New Haven route, not only is 91 better than 84 traffic wise but CT Transit has a bus that goes between NH and Hartford. i know because it stops in Middlefield (exit 20) on the way down/up.

this would be for your husband of course. you already have info regarding the NH train possibilities.
