thanks for the suggestions! I'll have to add Monroe to the list as well.I adore Newtown. I'd take a house there in a minute but it seemed to far to commute to NYC. The train lines from northern fairfield run so slow so I was thinking for us to be close to the NYC border so my husband can use one of NY stations instead. If anyone here has been to Granby, that is my ideal town! If my husband was working in Hartford or Springfield, that would be my town. Rural and country but amenities close by and the mall only 30 minutes away.

Yeah, most people in northern Fairfield (even in Danbury) choose the more direct NY (Harlem Line) train stations over the Danbury branch of the New Haven line. Brewster is a particularly popular station they drive to. Newtown is nice but may be a little far for that.

There are parts of Fairfield that are less dense or suburban in nature. In fact about a third of the town is zoned for a minimum of two acres. Another option may be Easton. It has minimum one acre in one small part of it and the rest is three acres. If you live in the southern part of town you would be convenient to all that Fairfield has to offer including access to the trains. Jay

I didn't know that about Fairfield. I'll have to look again. It really was a great town. I always think of the 80's Who's the Boss when I hear Fairfield.
I have added Easton to the list too! We have plans to house hunt New Years day if the weather will let us.

I didn't know that about Fairfield either - it is a great town though. Easton is also another beautiful town.

If your husband will have to commute 5x a week to Manhattan in the future, I'd suggest buying as close to NYC as possible. I can't believe that people actually commute daily from towns like Bethel, Newtown, Southbury, Oxford, etc. It just seems like a trek that I wouldn't want to make daily.

If I were you I'd stick along the main line of Metro North along I-95 and the Merritt Parkway. Regardless of what is said about Bridgeport students attending the schools in Trumbull (this is a problem in many towns with good schools, especially Greenwich with Stamford/Port Chester students), the schools there are very good. Easton is another good suggestion.

I'm not sure if you typed this also - but is Wilton out of your price range? That seems like it would be the perfect town for you.

I never said the schools in Trumbull weren't good, was only curious about it. Honestly, the kids I "suspected" didn't really seem any "worse" or anything.

I know you didn't. I was just reassuring the OP that the schools there are very good.

Wilton is definitely beautiful. I didn't see anything that I loved in our price range but I really have all year to look since we won't be buying until fall probably. I just want to start looking now. I've been told that if you stumble on a short sale or foreclosure, esp if it's Bank of America owned, they can take 8 months just to approve or not approve your offer.

I hope you weren't referring to me---I did say Trumbull's schools were very good.

I was more referring to 7 Wishes post about the "sprinkling of diversity" and just reassuring that the schools in Trumbull were very good...
