Hi everybody !

My name is Emilie, I'm French. I have been living in the US for a couple of month. My husband has neen transfered for his job and we have decided to live in Farifield, CT !!!
We definitely enjoy that city.

When we were looking for a place to live, I used to read your posts. That's the reason that we have decided to live in Fairfield.
Then, first of all, thank you so much ... it's a great area !!!

By the way, I am currently working as a French teacher for kids and adults (I work as a private tutor, and also with a school for children in Wilton).

I love teaching French, but my first passion is French Food and Cooking (I'm already giving cooking classes with that school) but now I'm thinking about starting my own business in that field (cooking classes and personal chef).

If one of you has some recommandations, contacts or advices, it would be very helpfull !!!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much for your help ... and we never know, maybe one day you would be interested in learning the secrets of French Food !!!!

Best regards,
Emilie

Sounds interesting. Good luck with that. Maybe instead of classes think about opening up a restaraunt or bakery or something?

I would contact the continuing education departments of local schools (Westport, Wilton, Norwalk, Stamford, etc) to see if they are interested in what you have to offer. Maybe even a community college.

Thank both of you for your answers !

The point is that I prefer starting a Cooking Classes business, because my passion is cooking and teaching and I love the idea to teach people the secrets of the French Cuisine.
I would love also to cook for people who don't have time (or no experience) for that.

With a cooking class and a Personal Chef serices, I don't need to hire employee, and I dont' need to put the money necessary to open a Restaurant (we never know, maybe later ??)

I have contacted some continuing education schools and they offer some training programs.

I'm also working on my website, maybe do you know some people who can help me ??

It's not easy when you arrive in a new Country, to have some professional contacts to give you advices.

By the way, Fairfield is a so nice area and people are so nice is the US, that I'm confident ;-))

Thank you,
Emilie

I have a relative that did personal cooking (among other duties) for a wealthy working couple in Southport and it was very lucrative. The couple needed someone to help with their children, overseeing things like decorating or work done on the house (basically sitting waiting for the plumber or electricain to arrive) and having meals available for when they got home. She made a nice living for a while doing this. She had met the woman while taking a class at a local school. I am sure there are people looking for these types of services. You might want to advertise in the local newspapers. Jay

Welcome to Fairfield! I would advise checking with the local Chamber of Commerce. They do a lot of advertising, and can include your service.

If you partner with a local wine distributor, you might be able to also include wine tastings as part of your classes... and they may help with some startup costs.

Would you be running this out of your home? If so, be careful with legal issues (injuries during classes, unhappy customers suing you for no reason, etc.) as they might be able to make a claim if you are not properly protected. Check with a local lawyer, and make sure you incorporate (LLC would be fine) to protect your personal assets.

Good luck!

Hi- check out Fairfield Continuing Ed programs (there are several people/companies that give some really interesting food classes, are in a similar situation and probably have advice on how to advertise for a similar small business), put an add in the Fairfield weekly and post fliers at the Harborview Market in Black Rock, as well as at some of the fun entertainment/coffee/yoga/pilates places in Fairfield and downtown Bridgeport. Those of us who stop in those places are often looking for info about exciting opportunities in the area. Let us know your website address when it's ready!
