Thanks for the correction! Wow, thats right! Normal high for coast is 52 end of March and mid 30s for the night lows. I still consider upper 40s as normal but thanks for the technical correction. :-)

Bridgeport will easily have it's warmest March ever even with the "cold wave". As of yesterday, it's averaging 47.9 and the record is 43.0 in 1979.

Ironically, NYC Central Park will probably end up third, currently averaging 52.1 but there are two freaky back to back years, 1945 and 1946 that averaged 51.1 and 49.8 and #3 is over a degree below that. It's possible it will still hold at #1, but I think #2 at best and if it's cold enough this week may fall to #3 (48.6 in 1921, 2010 was #4 at 48.2)..........OKX shows "top 10" for Central Park but only shows #1 for the other stations, including Bridgeport.

Reminder: Cover your plants or bring them in tonight.

Cold and Dry is the word(s) for next couple days/nights. Temps will drop quick this afternoon. Windy tomorrow.

STRONG COLD FRONT INCHING CLOSER TO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND AT 7 AM WITH LEADING EDGE OF COLDER AIR JUST OFF TO THE NORTHWEST FROM KDDH TO KVSF WITH A WIND SHIFT TO THE NW AND G30 KT! TEMPS WILL LIKELY RISE FOR A FEW HOURS THIS MORNING BEFORE LEVELING OFF WITH THE FROPA AND THEN FALLING FAIRLY RAPIDLY MID TO LATE AFTERNOON AS STRONG CAA COMMENCES

THE MAIN CONCERN FOR TODAY IS THE ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER POTENTIAL.

Current surace map. You can see the cold front making its way across. Little snow up in Maine.

In a way…I think it is far more impressive that this March is inside the top 3 or 4 at NWS Central Park than NWS Bridgeport. I’m not sure, but I think the data at NYC goes back to 1869…while at NWS Bridgeport I think it’s like 1948.

The period from 1935 to 1955 still hold a lot of the records for heat not only in the Tri-State area/East Coast, but in much of the USA. To this day, the longest heat wave ever in the Tri-State area occurred in the 1953 (Aug 24th – Sept 4th….the most 100 F days also occurred in 1953…and the highest temp ever (106 F) occurred in 1936 at Central Park. We might have been warm since the 1990’s, but I still think the 1935 – 1955 was the time of greatest heat in the area.

This non-existant winter has led to the EARLIEST ice out on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH in recorded history. Records go back to the early 20th century. Two out of the last three winters have recorded ice out before April 1 which is highly unusual.

Weather Channel actually analyzed several cities and thinks CPK will end up #2:

Six Cities Eyeing a Record Warm March - weather.com

It's too bad Sikorsky started records in 1948, I wonder what their March 1945/46 numbers were.

Can someone post the normal temps for the lows for today. Are we under or normal?

Couple of temp maps for this morning.

Sub Zero wind chill readings for tip of Maine.
Single Digits for Maine and high elevations.
Teens mostly CT northward.
That 24 you see is for NYC.
15 degrees+ difference since yesterday morning. Meanwhile the Plains are waking up to 60 degrees.

Random pick in CT. 24 degrees in Tolland, Wind chill 19 degrees. Winds gusting to 27mph.
