Hi,

I would be moving to Stamford,CT from South Africa.
I am married with a kid and would be working for UBS.
Can you please suggest some good residential locations near by which are not very costly. It should be in the range of 1000-1500 USD for a Single Bedroom apartment.

Will it be fully furnished?
Please let me know the locations( around 20 miles ) which is safe secure and convinient.

Thanks and Regards
J

Hi,

I think you could find an apartment within your budget, but it will probably be small. Most of Stamford is very safe, so you shouldn't be too concerned about crime. Avoid the South end and the West side if possible - these areas aren't so good. You might also want to consider Norwalk, which is two towns to the east. It's a city of about 80,000 and you might find it a little bit more affordable than Stamford. Good luck!

Hi again,
I'm in Hartford County, which is just over an hour from Stamford. I know the city a little bit, but not well and unfortunately I don't know any realtors. But there are many online websites you can utilize to find properties within your budget (like Craig's list or apartments.com ). You could always search for something and get back to us to see if we know the areas at all. Theres someoen on this board who works as a real estate agent who posts on this board once in a while, he might be able to help you further. He might post in the near future and give you some advice.

I lived in Stamford for 4 years and I pass by that UBS building almost everyday. Believe it or not 1000-1500 will get you a Studio or a 1 Bedroom rental. Check Craigslist for some ads or hire a realtor to do the leg work for you.

Good luck on the move and congrats on the job.

Thanks Mike/Snowman.

I would be very happy if i find a Studio for 1000-1500 range in Stamford itself, or else i would be ok moving to Norwalk.
Is Norwalk in CT or someother State.???

Since a studio in Stamford is fine for you, I would concentrate on finding that. norwalk is in Connecticut. It is about 8 miles from Stamford. Jay

Norwalk is the most ridiculously overpriced city in the state and NYC metropolitan. High rents for what? Bad schools with crime and an hour long commute to NYC! No thank you.

You forget, Norwalk has a significant employment base and is surrounded by some of the pricest towns in the country. It is also not far from Stmaford. Of course it would be more expensive than other similar cities. Location is everything. Jay

Only in Connecticut can the suburbs bring up the real estate values in a city.
