hi all,
a friend of mine from MN advised to get home inspectors or companies specializing in Infra-red technology to find out how well a house is insulated. I've found a few companies in CT that do this. I'm just curious to know if these IR inspections are common in CT. I know that MN is significantly colder than CT in the winter and makes sense to perform these testings there.
Has anyone used this when buying a house or just to find out problem with current insulation for future improvements? please give your feedback.

thank you.

Anyone with a FLIR device can do it. I use them for flood remediation work to find moisture in substructures. Simple device to use really.

ironically i just came up from my basement where I was installing insallation. R25 faceless in ceiling. 8 1/4" thick. For thermal and sound.

Thats a pretty cool tool JV!

Funny thing about insualtion is after a certain number of years its not effective. So if you're buying a home pre 1970 kiss that eneergy saving goodbye. After 1990 and you're safe...in between and you should be ok but prepare for heat loss soon.
