Nothing to add, except that I went to North Street. Great school. All the other posts are true. I grew up surrounded by such understated wealth in the community, that it takes a heck of a lot more than money to impress me. My definition of class is the ability to be kind to everyone, regardless of their financial status. Old money in Ct exemplifies this attitude.
Good luck with your move--it is a great town.

To OHtoCT and sgfludd:
I was quite pleased to have read your collective posts. I too am considering a move to CT from Seattle and was worried that mine would be the only family of color.
In doing web research, I came across a board called Urban Dictionary where the posters were actually using racial slurs.
In any case ladies, perhaps we can share helpful info.
Also, I will be looking for a rental and was a bit shocked to see that something nice in a 4 bedroom would cost upwards of $12000. Where does one find a good rental in Greenwich?
Thanks.

soncisfan - Greenwich is one of the most desirable communities to live in the country. As such, housing prices are among the highest in the country as well. There are some rentals around town (check craigslist.com and the Greenwich Times for listings) but they are pricey as well. If the rents are higher than you can pay, you may have to consider another town. Neighboring Stamford has more rentals and a wider range of housing costs. Good luck, Jay

I don't have any rental info - as we're fortunate to have faculty housing with my husbands job here. But I know its even MORE expensive than Los Angeles - which blew me away initially. And you wouldn't be the only family of color in Greenwich - there are a handful of African American families here - though not so many that I'm not always pleasantly surprised to see another brown face. We've met many through school and church. I even met one family through this forum, and we get together and chat quite frequently. So it's a great place to be - minus the cost of living. Feel free to email me if you have any additional questions. Sara

If you're concerned about the lack of ethnicity in Greenwich, you might want to consider Harrison in Westchester County. It is only 10 min. from Greenwich, and is more down to earth-nice little town. Also very easy to get to Manhattan-either by cra fo train. There will be some culture shock, just by being East, but not as much as you my think. You're also going against the traffic, so commute is easy to Greenwich-best of both worlds. Shopping in White Plains is close by, and people wear sandals in the summer. I know when I go to Greenwich, I get more dressed up, than when I'm in Westchester.
Just a suggestion. Any questions, let me know.
