Moving to Danielson
I'm moving to Danielson with my boyfriend in some weeks. I'm from Chile and I've never been in USA before, I've been in Europe and South america of course. I would like to know what I can do there, how is the town and everything you can tell me about living in CT.
We also have to buy a lot of things for our new home so if anyone could tell me where we can buy some good but cheap things I will be grateful.
Thanks guys!

Danielson is located in eastern Connecticut- the so called 'quiet corner' near the Rhode Island border- Providence RI a very nice city is a mere 35 minutes away- is closer then Hartford.
Eastern Connecticut is mostly rural-rolling hills and farms and much in the way of History. The closest town of any size is Putnam to the north, while Norwich to the southeast is a small city of 38,000.
There is ample shopping in Providence, Manchester CT (To the west about 35 miles) and to a lessor degree Norwich 20 miles to the southwest.
Do prepare for winter weather -late in the year-

Ocean State Job Lot on Route 6 has good stuff at low prices. It's right next to the bowling alley.

You may be in the quiet corner, but it isn't like you are miles and miles away from civilization. Like above said, Providence is about 30 minutes away and actually closer than Hartford.
Norwich/New London/Waterford/Lisbon have plenty of shopping down I-395 about 20-30 minutes away.

I was in Danielson once a long time ago and honestly, I thought it was a very uneventful place. Some people like living in quiet, out of the way places, and that's how I would still consider it.
I hope that you enjoy it for as long as you end up living there. Maybe it really does become a heavenly place to live for those who do.

Danielson is a very quiet place. We are getting a mall soon. It is in a great tri-state location. MA/RI/CT. Providence is thriving and closeby, Worcester, MA, and where ever you need to go in CT. Boston is not so far either using the Mass Pike. To buy furniture for your whole house--no sense in paying full price. So I go to Norwichtown Plaza and they have Bob's Discount Furniture CLEARANCE CENTER called "the pit" inside Bob's. It's only in the Norwichtown one. I discovered it after I purchased my dining room set at full price at Bob's which is still cheapest around. But when I discovered The Pitt, then, I could have bought my dining set for less than half what I paid for it. They have everything from lamps, pictures, mattressses to armoires, desks, canopy beds. They have their own new mattress to rival the other brand (tempurpedic) called a Bob-0-pedic mattress.
Danielson is not far from the CT Casinos or Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC)in RI. Either place you can see your favorite entertainers. PPAC has broadway type shows. Providence is really a cool place. I don't go to Hartford because I don't feel that I or my car is safe there. It's too deserted with empty buildings and people getting into mischief. Weird people, so I stay away from there. There is a technical school in Danielson for Aviation which backs up onto the Danielson Airport. There you can get a pilot's license. There are festivals all year round and some of the nicest scenic routes to ride or take pictures. It's a sweet place with low crime. Also the CT state police have a barracks in Danielson. They are nice.

P.S. Danielson also has a nice community college called Quinnebaug Community College. The closest University is about 20 minutes away, University of CT at Storrs, CT. They have everything there.

I lived in Putnam for a few years after retiring from the Military and used to go to Danielson all the time. It may be called the quiet corner but you can reach virtually any point in the state in 2hours. SallyO describes it very well.I like the area because it fits all types older folks wanting a little quiet or younger couples who want a safer environment but access to nightlife and good shopping.

I believe that Bob's has announced that it is closing its Norwichtown store and relocating it to a store that just opened nearby. Not sure where but maybe Montville. ALso, Bob's has a couple of "Pits". There is one in their Manchester CT store. You can find some good buys there. Jay
