I have been reading posts on Bridgeport. However, most of the threads are kind of old. Does anyone have updates on Bridgeport? Is it still bad if you have children? I heard that The North End, Brooklawn, Black Rock and Treeland are nice areas. Is that still true? Should I stand clear of Bridgeport, or is it not that bad. I am moving from the Bronx.

Also, how is the commute into the Bronx or Manhattan? I will be commuting for work.

Thank you for your input!!

There are a few nice areas of the city like Black Rock and the North End, but I would steer clear of Bridgeport if you'll be sending your kids to public schools. You might try neighboring Stratford which is a decent suburb of Bridgeport with better schools. The commute to NYC is doable; it would be about 2 hours to Manhattan or 90 minutes to 125th Street each way by train, depending on how close you live and work to each station.

If your price range allows, you might want to look into Norwalk or Stamford.

My best friend in the late 60s lived off East Main Street near the old Skydell's. We'd walk around all hours at night and no one bothered us. There was this hole-in-the-wall place called Pete's Subs. I think
Pete became fairly successful later on.

Thank You Yankee! Are there areas of Statford I should avoid?

There are beautiful neighborhoods in Northend, Blackrock, Brooklawn etc. but the main concern with children is the education which is rated poorly for Bridgeport. Thats the main issue with living there.
I moved to CT from the bronx (soundview) 6 years ago and my commute usually takes an hour or under back and forth. (depending on traffic as well.)

Thank you Aaron! That isn't too bad. How about public transportation?

I am also concerned about the schools. How are the private schools?

Bridgeport has a number of good private schools, most of which are run by the Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport. I thnk Stratford might be a better choice for schools. As for where in Stratford to live, there are some areas along the Bridgeport city line to avoid. Jay
