I grew up in the NY area and spent many a summer day at West End 2. It was closed for awhile, no?
Robert Moses State Park is wonderful but fairly far from Greenwich. We used to drive to Jones Beach from Eastchester, NY (north of the Bronx) and it took an hour.
Quinniapac is pronounced 'quin-a-pack', lol.

Ahh just came back from a day at Miscquamicut Beach. Fun, fun, fun! The waves were great and the weather was perfect! Well worth the 1.5 hr drive from Hartford.

Connecticut's best beaches are going to be east of New Haven.
Long Island sound becomes 'clearer' as one heads east toward the Rhode Island border and the open waters of Block Island sound and the Atlantic.
Rocky Neck and Hammonasset offer clean beaches and water- though the surf is not strong. Ocean Beach state Park in New London will offer more waves.
The Rhode Island beaches of Miscquamicut and Weekapaug are on the open Atlantic and offer high surf conditions.

Looking at real estate in New London - it looks very reasonably priced vs RI beach area real estate? What is the town of New London like vs the RI beach cities?

New London is really a small city on Long Island Sound. I would not consider it to be a beach community. There is Ocena Beach Park there which is very nice, and there are some good restaurants, but it really is more of an urban type area. Jay

I like Naragansat in Rhode Island. Its a little farther into Rhode Island than Misquamicut, but I find it to be less crowded and a better beach. Have a great summer.

New London has Connecticut College a fine private 4 years liberal arts college, and the Eugene O'Neil Playhouse- but the town tends to be more 'urban gritty' despite have under 50,000 people.
Yes real estate is very inexpensive- if looking to buy property, check into nearby Waterford, Niantic and Groton Long Point.
