What on earth is with this steamed cheeseburger craze?

Ted's - Meriden, CT

And what is the difference between a "whole belly fried clam" and a clam strip? I've only ever had the latter.

Not a big burger freak here- but the best cheeseburgers in the northeast and the top 3 in the nation are in Manchester CT at a milk bar called shady Glen Steamed over fried? Instead of on the grill, they are 'steamed' my fellow members here can elaborate.

Whole bellied clams have just what the description says; the whole clam body; including the rather watery belly. Clam strips lack the whole body and belly. Fried whole belly clams are incredibly delicious. And are more expensive then the strips.

Many places in New England offer both- the best I have had are in eastern New England and Cape Cod.

Hmmm - what is the texture like then? More or less chewy than clam strips? Does the watery belly bit make it mushy? I think I should just start fasting now. In preparation for the 50 pounds I'm going to gain trying all these new foods and more importantly - ICE CREAM.

shady glen does have the best cheeseburgers around. They are an old fashioned ice cream/sandwich shop, kind of like Friendly's use to be before they got all "nouveau" with their food. Just good basic burgers and fries and great ice cream. The cheese burgers are made with a large thick piece of American Cheese that is grilled. It is really great. Great ice cream too.

Steamed burger are just that, hamburgers made with water not oil or fat. They are good too.

Whole belly clams are the oly way to go. They are the whole clam not just the tough part. Very different tast that some do not like. Jay

Whole bellied fried clams are moist and chewy with incredible flavor. Served with fries and tartar sauce they can be mouth watering and delicious.

Strips are less flavorful, and are they more chewy? Not really. They have less clam flavor- and less moisture.

Of course the whole bellied clams are more pricey.

Gain weight? Hardly; here in eastern CT we have excellent Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Spanish, Chinese eateries.

You will not gain weight. well not much.

Most people not only refuse to eat whole belly clams but they detest them, and steamed cheeseburgers are not really a craze at all.

Whole belly clams are the ones with the entire clam not just the stems. I prefer them over the strips. Jay
