Maybe you should consider Stratford. It is very close to Bridgeport, but a safer town. Bridgeport does have high crime and some neighborhoods are not that safe. Some parts of Bridgeport are very nice but if you don't know the town it might be hard to find the best place to live.

I don't know personally, but I read that there are some rough parts of South Stratford. Generally the north parts near Trumbull are nicer but command a premium.

I have lived in Bridgeport all life. Its a horriable place to live. The taxes are HIGH and so is the Cirme rate and bridgeport public school system this horriable. NOT A GOOD MOVE.

I would say most of New Haven is safe and I would have no problem living there with exceptions to several specific neighborhoods, but that is how EVERY city is.

Personally, I wouldn’t live in Bridgeport, even the nice areas, mainly because the taxes are so high, as will be the car insurance. Unfortunately, the suburbs surrounding Bridgeport can be quite pricey and most are predominantly white (read: little to no racial diversity), though you may find some relative “bargains” for the area in Stratford, which is much more diverse than the surrounding suburbs that bigmama listed like Monroe and Trumbull, which the vast majority of residents there are white with little to no racial, social, or economic diversity.
Mel you are kidding BPT is a horriable place to live. The property taxes is outragous. The North End is horriable and so is Black I should now I live there and my child so the ST. Ann in Black rock.

We just moved into a nice home in North Stratford (Oronoque) and the neighborhood has practically everything one would want - privacy, decent schools, access to shopping, etc. The downside is the high level of property taxes - expect to pay almost 2% of your home's value annually...!

Stay away from Bridgeport. Especially after dark. Can you say more about what you want and can afford? CT has a lot to offer but the communities and cost of living varies depending on where you live.

Hello,

We are thinking of moving to Conn...Anyone know anything about Bridgeport area? Is it a high crime area? We are looking to move into a diverse neighborhood that is safe?[/quote]

Do you think it automatically transitions from a craphole in Bridgeport to a nice affluent suburb in Trumbull? The north end has some decent areas. If you live in Black Rock then you must know how many very expensive homes there are around St. Mary’s By the Sea.

I stated that the taxes are very high and I wouldn’t personally live there. In my opinion there are more bad than good areas, but it a wrong assumption to say there is no decent, safe area of Bridgeport.

Smile Bridgeport isnt as bad as it seems....

Im here to say, that although bridgeport is a city, which had earned the rep as being the "Murder Capitol" of the US back in the 90's...the crime rate has gone down to only 8% from 00 to 04....so it isnt as bad as people make us out to be. there are alot of really good parts about this town..and why our neighboring towns and cities dont like us, i dont kno..but there are some areas to aviod, that's just like any other city tho..I've lived in bridgeport all my life, i grew up during our days as the "murder capitol", and i've seen a big change in this town..and now it's 07, and plans to revitalize Bridgeport into a Metropolus are starting soon, you can go read up on it at out cities web site..or if your wanting to move here, just go to Bportliving.com..and you'll see the truth, and not the underground.....
