Hi everyone, how is Main street in Hartford CT? How is the safety in that area, and what can I expect to pay for renting a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment? Thanks!

Depends on where exactly you're looking. If it's downtown then you should be fine. Personally I'd stay away from Main Street north of downtown because it changes alot once you cross the I-84 underpass and this is a bad area. There have been some new developments here (including a new gated complex that's supposed to be nice and safe,) but I wouldn't do it. The price will depend on the location as well as what kind of amenities it provides. Have you decided on a budget yet?

You might also want to consider the West End - it's not downtown but there's alot to choose from and it's a great area. Plus you have FarmingtonAve here which is lined with some REALLY good restaurants and pubs. I prefer it to downtown personally because it's a bit more subdued and its closer for me.

I agree with Mike. downtown is very nice but north of I-84, Main Street gets sketchy. This is the North End which is one of the most dangerous parts of the city. South of downtown is also nice. Jay

Sketchy is not the word, more like Duck the bullets. There are reports of shootings almost daily. I'd say stick to the Downtown area. The West End Area is pretty nice to, I live there and it's a nice place with affordable prices. but Downtown is upper scale apts if you can afford it. Good luck
