I am traveling from Newport, Rhode Island on 95 South, but when I get into the Connecticut state line, I begin to hit bumper- to- bumper traffic all the way down to the Garden State Parkway, into NJ.

Does anyone know of another route I can take that gets me into the GSP that is not too much further off, thus avoiding I-95? Thanking you in advance,

Bumper to bumper from the CT/RI state line to the Garden State? I've never seen that. On a bad day it's bumper to bumper in New Haven, and lower Fairfield County through 287...

If it's really bumper to bumper the whole way, I'd try Amtrak.

It would be the Kingston,RI Station to Newark Penn and Transfer to the North Jersey Coastal line to shore points. But not all shore points , if you want Atlantic County , Cape May counties , you go to Philly and take the Atlantic City line. For discounts , you'll have to use coupons or AAA to knock it down a ton ,if you decide to travel tomorrow on Amtrak. Most of the Highways and Interstates in my state will be very congested , hehe i'll be on the train all day tomorrow. It becomes so bad in my state , that riding a bike on the highways is faster then driving.
