Hi Guys,

I'm currently an AT&T subscriber and coverage is ok (though dropped calls are kinda ridiculous).

How is Verizon, especially in Stamford? Thinking of switching.

From what I hear Verizon has very reliable service, but I've also heard that AT&T is pretty decent in a lot of CT. Steer clear of Sprint, though, as the service is HORRIBLE. I've been stuck with Sprint because that's what my company gave me, but I'll be switching carriers soon... seriously considering the new iPhone, but not if service is lousy. Not really worth it to have a great new phone if you can't do anything with it. Verizon has the Droid Incredible, which is also an option. But that's a discussion for another forum.

Any Verizon customers in Stamford / Ffld county? I'd be interested to hear how service is throughout. I'm in Fairfield, but commute from NYC every day and lose a signal for a majority of the train ride. I can't go 5 minutes without the signal dropping.

We have Verizon and the service has been very good. We are considering switching to Sprint though because the cost will be lower. How bad is Sprint's service? We are mostly in the Hartford area and sometimes in New Haven and Fairfield. any suggestions? Jay

I've heard bad things about sprint in massachusetts...

Although, with that new EVO 4G phone, it might be worth it even if the signal ain't that great :P

My experience in FFC has been: 1. Verizon 2. T-Mobile 3. AT&T 4. Sprint.

I wouldn't expect a signal from Sprint in the no exit zone on the Merritt, that's for sure.

We have numerous friends and family in Stamford, and we have Verizon. I have found there are pockets in Stamford where we get no signal, particularly in the northern areas just south of the parkway. It's strange, considering Stamford is a city. I can drive through the undeveloped areas of Easton and have no trouble sending/receiving calls. Pulled off to the side of the road, of course.

Other than in Stamford, I've never had issues with Verizon, at least in Ct. We used to have Sprint though, and no matter where I went it was always a pleasant surprise just getting a signal.

Jay --

We have Sprint and have had only positive experiences with it. We get strong signals everywhere we go in and around the greater Hartford area and beyond. Went to Strubridge a couple of weekends ago -- no problem. In fact, I don't remember anywhere that we've been (to the Canadian border, in Lakeville, New Haven, NYC, Long Island, etc...) where we've had a problem. It's been very solid.

I don't think the type of phone makes a difference. My husband has a BlackBerry but I have just a basic phone, and we both get very strong signals.

I can second that with sprints signal,i live in Springfield and work in Suffield and i cannot even think of a spot where i lose or get no signal. I have the Family everything unlimited plan for 129 a month and love it(we both have blackberrys).I get consistant signal all along the 91 corridor, also all along the mass pike and boston area.In fact in NYC my phone is always getting 3g reception while my brothers iphone is barely pulling in at&t's edge(below 3g).

But again i have had nothing but a great reception with sprint.

I have had a miserable experience with Sprint. But, my primary usage is in and around Fairfield, commuting on Metro North to NYC, or at my in-laws in Monroe. I don't spend much time up towards Hartford or beyond, so I can't respond for those areas. As another poster said, I feel lucky when I actually get a signal a lot of the time. Text's are very delayed, data traffic is painfully slow, and voice calls will frequently drop or have new incoming calls bounce right to voicemail.

The EVO looks like a great phone, but it's huge. And, until Sprint blankets the area in LTE the 4G capability is useless.

If you are looking to switch carriers, be careful about going on advertised price. Make sure you get a full detailed list of the monthly recurring charges (including taxing and fees) that they'll be charging ahead of time. Then you can do an apples to apples comparison. There are a ton of hidden charges for things, particularly if you add data packages or extra features like tethering, mifi, etc. Some carriers like to also add extra surcharges for who knows what.
