Yes, that would be from the failing chip in the light engine.....welcome to the 'Group', unfortunately. I only mentioned my white spots in my posts above....there are lots of black ones too. I have read on another thread about replacing the computer chip (defective part in the light engine) for about $300. People are buying them online & installing them themselves. It was reported that the instructions that came with the chip were easy to follow even for a novice. The part can be bought online.

You would think that Mits would use this option to keep its customers happy. They could arrange for one of their authorized area service dealers to make the service call & change out the part. I read where it takes just a matter of minutes for the exchange of chips. Sort of like an auto recall for a defective part....only we wouldn't be taking these TVs in to the shop (as large as these 65 inch TVs are, if this was offered, I would lug it down to the repair shop in a minute). Imagine how many customers would be very happy with Mits for doing that. Just a thought...wonder if they read these boards?

Default White Dots

I have the WD-60735 and just got my first white dot on the screen. The set is 3 years old. I called Mitsubishi and they are sending a service co. to check the tv. From what I read they will pay for the new light engine but we get stuck paying for the service, which is not fair considering that this DMD chip failure is obviously a major defect in almost all of their DLP tvs.

If any of you have worked a deal with them to purchase a new TV for cost, please let me know if it is a newer technology that won't eventually get the same white dot problem. I'll log back in when I get further along in the process and update.

Overall, I am very happy with the way Mit handled this, especially considering I was out of warranty.
Just a little update... the above deal was what I worked out... our new TV arrived shortly after, and was installed for a total of $400 + sales tax. New TV hasn't given us any problems at all.

My brother had the same problem but didn't keep his receipt.... he purchased his from Best Buy. I can't remember the exact price, but he got the same deal as me except he paid around $600 and got his TV from Mit.

2 lessons learned- buy from a reputable local dealer and always keep your receipt! Overall, we are pleased with the way Mit handled this esp. considering it was out of warranty.

Keep fighting it because they told me the same thing, but they finally paid for the diagnosis of the problem and offered to pay for the part and I paid $250, however I refused. Then they suggested $150 for labor. I still refused and this is where we are now. I cannot afford to pay for labor because I am unemployed and my unemployment will be running out and I have more pressing issues. I am still waiting from them to call me back again. But I guess I will call them back. This issue is a defective part in the TV and even though it is out of warranty, I feel they should fix it for feel. Also, I learned that Samsung had the same problems with their TVs and Mitsubishi are getting their parts from them. So don't give in. FIGHT THIS TO THE END. Also, I think a class action suit should be filed against them like Samsung and they fixed or replaced the TVs for free. So write your state attorney general office with your complaint, this will help greatly.

Just got my first dot...have had the tv for at least 4 years now, one bulb replacement, and the tv is used a lot. From what i have read above and on other blogs, i can expect more dots...grrrrrrr. All of the above is interesting but very few posts offer a remedy or what is really wrong...and what is a light engine? What is Mitsu's number????

Just as an experiment, and a temporary way to keep it from being as annoying, has anyone tried covering the white pixel with a tiny dot of black electric tape and then covering that with a slightly larger dot of frosted plastic? The frosted plastic might allow the surrounding pixels to "bleed" and party make up for the missing pixel. I know it is a kludge, but it might make things a tiny bit better.

Just got the first white spot on the TV 2 days ago and a second one today. Called Mits cust service(800-332-2119) They said to get their servicepeople out there then fax them the estimate. I asked if they would pay for the repair and she really never gave me an answer.

The repairman wants $150 to come out and give me an estimate, even though he knows it will either be $550 for a chip or $750+ if its the light engine. Im going to call mits back Monday and ask for a commitment to pay for the repair.

I do not see what the point of paying for a repairman to come out for an estimate when we all know exactly what the problem is. There is NO WAY I am paying $150 for an estimate then find out they want me to pay for 1/2 of a $1000 repair bill for this TV.

One other question. If I do get this fixed am I going to have the same problem in 3-4 years or have the new chips/ light engines been fixed to last longer? Thanks

Pretty sure it will be the same. I haven't run across any notice that the technology has significantly changed.
