I notice that everything they compare the techie stuff to is Energy Start rated. I suppose they could be more biased, but I'm not sure how they'd pull it off...
I've been meaning to hook up the wattage meter to the cable box, I read it's constant 30 watt draw. That's a lot, I have two of them so it's like having a 60 watt light on 24/7. You can't do anything about it unless you don;t mind sitting there for few minutes any time you want to watch TV because it takes so long to boot. It's a really poor sign because there really is no need for it to be constantly sucking power.
I used to worry about using too much power. Then I started paying attention to businesses and noticed skyscrapers with all the lights on all night. Decided I wasn't going to feel guilty bout it. Our power bills are low so it doesn't affect the wallet much.
They'll refund you the 30 watts * 24 hours * $0.15/(kwhr) * 30 days/mo = $3.24 per month about the same time they jack up the rate $10/month for the extra processing that goes into this.

True enough since all cable companies keep a hand in your wallet at every turn.
