record programming from Cable channels. I can only record programming from my local CBS, ABC, FOX, and NBC channels. Why is this happening you think?

When I try to record from a cable channel the picture becomes JUMPY.

Now I'm really confused because I can record from NBATV, and NFL Network and Digitial Channels
but not

Fox News, or TV Land.

There's various flags that can be sent with the broadcast. The cable box will then add protection to the output if it has too, in your case since it's analog it adds what is commonly called macrovision to the output signal which was originally used on VHS tapes. You DVR sees this and will prevent recording.

It's also possible Comcast is adding protection to every cable channel if none of them work.
