"First there was phone, then email, then..."

Phone and email are pretty much the defacto or ubiquitous main standards (I think) for communication. You put it on resumes, you put it on your business card, in your email sigs. What do you think the third main standard for communication is? Is it invented already?

Texting, by far. I use it professionally as well as personally, and I know I'm not alone.

Just hazarding a guess here... Talking face-to-face?

You left out faxes.

Pheromones. Works for dogs.

I'd think texting of some sort. Although I don't very much, I can see why others do.

Telepathy.

Before you laugh, consider that it would be elementary to translate modern cellphone technology into something that could be projected directly onto the eardrum, or the bone. Taken further, something akin to Ghost in the Shell communication between "cyberbrains".

It hasn't been invented yet, but something akin to "telepathy" will take over next.

Because of this distinction, I voted for Social Networking.

LinkedIn is becoming a must-have for business communication these days.

For more personal communication, I might have voted for SMS as the third leg of the stool.
