Just got given a 42" Toshiba lcd flat screen tv.
Got it up and running but i dont see a High Definition picture.
Where does the HD come from? the cable company or some extra equipment that needs to be bought? or some adjustment on the control system..?
You need an HD source, HD cable box as suggested above. I don't know if it's the same for all cable companies but Comcast has a specific range that are HD. If you hook an antennae too it you can get HD from over the air channels assuming they are broadcasting in HD. Blu ray disc player......
Also be aware you need to use specific cables for HD. Generally component or HDMI. The red, white and yellow RCA cables/connections commonly used on SD TV's can be used but not for HD.
After you get an HD box running through an HDMI cable not all channels and programs offer HD quality. Some are standard quality, some offer 720p and some offer 1080p.
You need a Hi-Def Cable Box from the cable company.
Not necessarily. Most cable companies offer the HD versions of local broadcast channels without a cable box. I get about 20 HD channels on my TVs without the cable box. The OP should run the channel scan again on the TV and give it time to search whether any digital channels are available on her/his cable.
I called up my local cable company and for $2.99 a month i get HD TV at the push of a button from the person on the phone, problem is that $2.99 only covers about a dozen basic cable channels,if i want any sports channels they come in a $5 a month bundle, want news channels? another bundle and more $$, seems like if i want what i already have in HDTV its going to cost me an extra $40 a month.. No thanks
