Camcorder? Christmas Eve 1993, Bell & Howell full-size VHS. In use until 2004, when the battery stopped working.

Also, a JVC VHS-C model in 1997; used almost solely by me, 10 at the time. I broke the record button and had to have my little brother (who was into woodworking at the time) fashion me a wooden button with a nail to film the impromptu early birthday party (his real birthday party was in August) we held for my 6th grade teacher in May 1999.

Cassette player? Don't know about my family, me? One of those "Home Alone" gimmick tape players/recorders in 1995.

CD player? My family had a CD player ever since the 1980's. Me, an Aiwa tape/CD/AM-FM combo in around 1997.

MP3/digital audio player? I got a CD/MP3 (plays MP3s recorded onto a CD-R) player in 2001. Hard-drive based player, 2003.

VCR? My family got one in about 1987. I got my own in 1995, when I was 9 - an ancient 80's vintage model from my grandpa's shop.

LaserDisc player? Never had one.

DVD player? My father bought me a computer with a DVD-ROM drive that played DVD videos in 2001. A standalone DVD player, about a year later.

DVR? My mom leased an incredible dual-tuner HD DVR from Dish Network beginning around December 2007. It was the first time I had satellite TV in my bedroom. We had to return it in March 2010 because we could no longer pay for our satellite TV subscription.

I had DVR capability on my computer (with a TV card) as early as 2001, and actually 1996, although the hard drive limited videos to about 30 seconds...

Blu-Ray? As a family (or speaking for myself as an individual), I don't think we've/I've ever owned one.

GPS? My parents gave me a Magellan GPS handed down from my grandpa, who used it for hunting, for the Christmas of 2001. It was functioned weirdly after it landed 30 feet away from me in a four-wheeler accident, in which I was using it to measure my four-wheeler's maximum speed, six months later. They gave me a Garmin GPS-60CS for the Christmas of 2005, which was stolen in April of 2011.

Shortwave Radio? My dad bought me a Radio Shack SW-2 multiband radio as a gift in April 1997. I was gifted $200 for my 11th birthday, which I promptly took to Radio Shack to use to buy a Radio Shack DX-390 (ATS-818), which had digital tuning. I really wanted a DX-398 (ATS-909), though, but those were like $270. Since then I've owned multiple shortwave radios.

Police Scanner? My dad had various police scanners from at least when we moved back to Duluth in 1990. I got my first, a RadioShack 30-channel model for my 12th birthday in 1998, which quickly broke. I replaced it with a Sportcat SC-180B for my 14th birthday in 2000, later supplemented by a RadioShack PRO-97 for my trip to New York City, which I sold for money for another trip, and then bought a used (but still pricey!) PRO-106 digital scanner off eBay and computer programming interface for ARMER in 2010, which was stolen in April 2011 (except the computer programming interface and software remained, as well as the manual).

Cellular Phone? My dad had a mobile phone as early as 1989 (it was really something then, especially for a young carpet layer to have). I got my first cell phone, a really nice but cheap LG model for the time with a VGA camera, in 2004.

High-definition TV? We sprung out the major cash for a 56" Mitsubishi rear-projection HD-ready TV, which was on sale at Best Buy, in December 2003. We didn't watch any actual HD on it until 2004 when we got a Dish Network HD receiver, though.

Strobe light? I got a Radio Shack strobe light for a gift for the Christmas of '97.

I haven't had the chance to go through the tapes but it will be interesting if I can combine the recording with the film. That wasn't the original intention.

I actually have a similar deck from another family member

Cassette player? My parents bought a stereo in 1971 to replace my mom's RCA Victor Hi-Fi (that thing was a gorgeous piece of mid-50s furniture!), and it included a cassette deck. I also got a smaller, portable cassette player around the same time.

CD player? 1989 -- I was a little behind the times and didn't buy a CD player until my favorite record store stopped selling vinyl.

VCR? Mid 80s

DVD player? 2002, a gift from my fiance.

DVR? 2005, but it belongs to the cable company.

Cell phone? 2001

High definition TV? 2009

Strobe light? None, but I have a multi-colored revolving disco light.

I'll see your portable cassette player, and raise you with one of these, which I got for Christmas in the late 60s:

Camcorder? Never. My parents got a mini disc recorder after I moved out though, circa 2005 I think.

Cassette player? Dont know. My parents had one when I was very young, early 1980's at least.

CD player? Discluding the family computer, I got a stand alone discman for my birthday in 1998 I think, when they were already on their way out (Ipod launched just a couple years later).

MP3/digital audio player? Again, discluding a computer, I got one of these Christmas 2010 from my wife, after they already were pretty much replaced by smartphones as portable music devices.

VCR? My parents had both a betamax and a VHS player as long as I can remember, so atleast early 80's.

LaserDisc player? I actually never knew anyone with one of these

DVD player? Probably about 2003, my parents got themselves and each kid a DVD player for Christmas.

DVR? Never had one of these

Blu-Ray? Got one for my 2010 wedding from a relative

GPS? My dad is an over the road truck driver and has had one since at least the early 2000's as part of his in truck logic unit when I was still living at home.

Shortwave radio? My dad was in to amateur radio and HAM radio in the 1960's and 1970's....so, I imagine some of that was still around the house somewhere in the early 80's when I was little.

Police Scanner? I dont think anyone in my family has ever had one of these

Cell phone? I think my ex wife had the first cell phone of anyone in my immediate family in 2004, which she didnt need, but was the only way I could negotiate the purchase of a family computer. I personally didnt have a cell phone until I came in to possession of her old one when she wanted a new one in about 2008.

High definition TV? Didnt have any real option but getting a HDTV, since thats all they really sell, when my old 19" CRT from about 2001 kicked the bucket in 2010. Got about the cheapest 32' I could find.

Strobe light? Never had one
