I am moving to another state, and unfortunately, where I'm moving I can't get satellite signal, so I'm stuck with Cable... I am a simple user - rarely watch movies - and have an external DVD player for that.... just not interested in movies.
I do like to record cooking shows, and some of the series I watch so I use a DVR. where I currently live, it's about $ 10.00 per month - not outrageous... Where I'm moving its 25-35 per month... too much!!! I thought get a Tivo - for a "basic Tivo" around $ 200 I'd save money in the long run.
What is considered a Basic Tivo? I looked on the Best Buy website - and they look a lot more complicated that I need.... any suggestions.
You may want to check your info the the Cable company again. Usually one either gets a Cable box or Cable box with DVR which is usually a $10 per month difference and runs seamlessly with the Cable system.
Tivo if I'm not mistaken also has a service charge, so it's not much of a gain.
Who is the cable provider? Going TIVO means you only have to pay to rent a cable card from a cable company plus whatever TIVO charges monthly. One thing that you may lose is OnDemand functions depending on who the provider is.
The tivo user interface is so far advanced over the directv interface that it is not even funny. I have one of the original tivos, and used it for years, with it selecting stuff to watch based on keywords and actors and a lot of other parameters. With the directv DVR, I'm lucky if the fast forward and reverse stop within thirty seconds of where I want it to stop, and the preferences selection looks like it was coded by a pre-teen.
