this morning my tv worked fine i just turned it on that i am only hearing sound but the picture is not showing or working there is no light on the screen. if you mute the volume you cannot tell if the tv is on or off. should i get a new tv or take it to a TV repair shop?
Repair will usually cost you a lot only to have something else go bad down the road. You're better off buyin a new one. I'd also suggest doing some research on your model because you might be able to fix it yourself cheaply. I had a Sony Trinitron monitor which started going bad and after some research found out it was a common problem. The fix was a 20 cent resistor with complete instructions on the internet how to replace it. Be aware there is an extreme shock hazard opening up a TV.

and you will need a pickup truck, and 2 or 3 friends to help you "pick it up". And there is probably a reason it's free

I gave away my 55-inch Mitsubishi rear-projection and it was in perfect working order. I couldn't find a buyer and my new family room really required a wall-mounted TV. Free rear-projection TVs are out there.
