My Grandfather recently bought a Jesnen 1250 Stereo
https://www.amazon.com/Jensen-JMC125.../dp/B00LP3DCDI

It has a single wire FM antenna.

It gets decent reception, but wants to improve it, specifically channel 89.3.

He bought an FM antenna (link below) but it does not work because of the single wire antenna.

My question is, can I connect the red wire from the antenna to the existing single wire from the stereo and ground the black wire out. If so will it work?

If not, how can I improve the reception on a single wire antenna?

TIA

Get a piece of speaker wire and extend the length of it. Just spice one end to the existing antenna wire. You will have to strip the insulation. You can then tape the wire to the wall or something where it can raise it up in the air.

The other option is to get a whip antenna or loop antenna with a single wire lead.

or if you don't care too much about looks you can build a wire hangar antenna
