My TV is older, and only has one HDMI input. I have a few things that only have HDMI (Apple TV and Mini DisplayPort to HDMI so I can connect my macbook pro to TV). The things that I can use the old cables (yellow, white, red), I use those to connect to one of the inputs. The annoying part is when I want to connect something else, I have to unplug the HDMI cable and then plug it into the other thing.

Is there some sort of switch or something that will allow me to plug more than one thing into the HDMI, but only recognize what it turned on?

^ This. Do NOT buy the so called "passive" switches, as many devices (Apple TV, Cable/FiberOptic boxes, etc.) are still "live" even w/the switch off, thus preventing the device from switching to what you just turned on.

Picked it up from Ebay. Works fine. Just remember to order an extra HDMI cable.
