With analog, you use to get a snowy picture with weak channels or if antenna aim was off. With digital, the antenna has to be right on pointed at the transmission tower. If you still don't get a signal, either the antenna is too small or the tower is too far or mountains /hills blocking signal.
Go to antennaweb.org or tvfool.com to find where to aim for transmission tower and channels available.

I've seen those boxes break/burn out and need to be replaced.

I'm having the same problems that people post here, it's been so frustrating with no TV at all! I followed the instructions very carefully on two converter boxes with a digital attend, tuned to channel 2 then channel 4, no piture at all, checked the appropriate connections, tunings, tried different things, you name it! I think, these modern updated converter boxes are not as good as when they first came out. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to subscribe to dish or cable which I wanted to avoid in the first place.

We have cable from the wall at our apartment. We have tried connecting the cable cord from the wall to the converter box while using an hdmi cord option. We got the menu screen and it’s pulling Charles for Dtv and radio. But when it says saving we try to watch them and it says scrambled. What are we doing wrong?
